Anti-Bullying Psychoeducation through Animal Fables at Bitul Makmur Elementary School, Malang

Malang, 14 June 2024 – In order to increase students’ awareness and understanding of the importance of anti-bullying characteristics, the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Brawijaya University (FKH UB) together with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP UB) held anti-bullying psychoeducation activities at Bitul Makmur Elementary School Malang on June 13-14 2024. This activity was led by drh. Shelly Kusumarini R., M.Si., as chief executive, and collaborated with Sofia Nuryanti, S.Si., M.A.

This activity, which involves FKH UB students class 2022, semester 4, who are also taking part in the Thematic KKN program, aims to shape students’ characters through the animal fable storytelling method. This method was chosen because it was considered effective in conveying moral messages and teaching positive values ​​to children.

The principal of Bitul Makmur Elementary School, Ida Prasanti, S.Pd., welcomed this activity. He said that a program like this was really needed to shape students’ better character. The teaching staff also provided full support for this activity, which was accompanied by various interesting activities such as healthy eating and coloring competitions.

Drh. Shelly Kusumarini R., M.Si. explained that animal fables were chosen as psychoeducational media because they were able to attract children’s attention and make it easier for them to understand the concept of anti-bullying. “We hope that through this activity, Bitul Makmur Elementary School students can better understand the importance of being kind to each other and staying away from bullying behavior,” he said.

Sofia Nuryanti, S.Si., M.A. from FISIP UB added that this cross-faculty collaboration is a positive step in strengthening synergy between disciplines in supporting character education in elementary schools. “By combining psychology and education, we hope to create a more positive learning environment and support student character development,” he added.

This activity took place lively and full of enthusiasm from the students. They really enjoyed the stories told and actively participated in the coloring competition held as part of this program.

Overall, this anti-bullying psychoeducation activity was successful and left a positive impression on both the students, teachers and students involved. The hope is that activities like this can continue to be carried out to support children’s character development from an early age.
