Erasmus+ MicroCASA  Program: Developing Micro Learning Unit towards Micro-Credentials

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has been actively participating in the international collaboration of the Erasmus+ program since March 2023 through the MicroCASA project (Micro-credentials for life-long learning and employability: building Capacities for developing Agile educational interventions in Southeast Asian universities). This project aims to share experiences of institutions in Europe in building institutional capacity in Southeast Asia to encourage innovation and the development of competency-oriented short learning units leading to micro-credentials to solve various economic and social problems. The MicroCASA consortium consists of 11 partners: 3 universities and 2 institutions in Europe (1. Saarland University, Germany, 2. Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain, 3. European University of Rome (EUR), Italy, 4. Information Centre on Academic Mobility and Equivalence (CIMEA), Italy, 5. GIRAF PM e.K., Germany) and 6 universities in Southeast Asia (1. Universitas Brawijaya (UB), 2. Universitas Sam Ratulangi (UNSRAT), 3. Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), 4. Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), 5. University of the Philippines (UP), and 6. Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU)).

Representatives from FILKOM UB: Dr. Achmad Basuki and Dr. Sabriansyah Rizqika Akbar played an active role in the MicroCASA Workshop session presenting the prototype implementation of digital certificates of micro credentials and digital badges on the new micro credential platform INXIGNIA together with two main speakers from the SOI Asia Project; Dr. Achmad Husni Thamrin and Dr. Andrey Ferriyan. In the session, the mechanism of recognition and validation of credentials was presented using the Inxignia platform which was then followed by an in-depth discussion on the development of a system for micro-credentials in the Southeast Asia region. The activity was held on (10/28 – 10/30/2024) at the ADMU campus and UP campus, Manila.

The MicroCASA consortium itself has agreed to use INXIGNIA for the issuance of digital certificates that can facilitate the verification and validation mechanism of credentials from the micro-learning units being developed. For three days, the MicroCASA consortium has intensively discussed the various progress that has been achieved. The discussion included an evaluation of the draft action plan for adopting micro-credentials, the development of innovative micro-learning modules, the selection of the right platform to manage micro-credentials, and the development of a strong institutional framework to ensure the integration of micro-credentials in the education system. The main goal of this effort is to increase access and inclusiveness of education. [UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
