BERMESA MEA FTP Program Encourages Waste Processing Innovation in Madyopuro

Students of the Environmental Engineering Study Program, Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) who are members of Malang Enviro Action (MEA) 2024 have successfully organized the Waste Processing (BERMESA) joint program in RW 03, Madyopuro Village.

The program, which focuses on processing organic and inorganic waste, has succeeded in inviting the active participation of the local community, by presenting waste processing innovations through mushroom cultivation that utilizes organic waste as a planting medium. This initiative aims to provide concrete solutions in overcoming waste problems while empowering residents by creating environmentally friendly products with economic value.

“I am very proud of all the elements who have played an active role in making the Malang Enviro Action series of events a success, especially in the waste processing program. One of the innovations that we have implemented is waste processing by implementing mushroom cultivation that utilizes organic waste as a planting medium. This program is expected to be a real solution for the community of RW 03, Madyopuro Village by processing organic and inorganic waste into products that are more environmentally friendly and have economic value,” said the Chairperson Executive Committee of the MEA 2024, Wisnu.

Not only innovation in waste processing, the success of the BERMESA program is also supported by the enthusiasm of the local community.

“Active community participation in this program is proof that concern for the environment can start from small steps taken together. I am very happy to see the enthusiasm of the community in taking advantage of this opportunity to learn and contribute to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability,” added Wisnu.

The Field Coordinator of MEA 2024, Iqbal, expressed his gratitude to the residents and the committee for the success of the event.

“Very happy with yesterday’s activities, the residents were very interested in mushroom cultivation and the speakers were also very happy because the event went smoothly. I am very grateful to my fellow committee members who have given their energy from the beginning of the preparations until the D-day yesterday,” he said.

As part of the BERMESA program, the mushroom cultivation mini course activity was one of the main highlights that managed to attract the community’s attraction. In this mini course, residents of RW 03, Madyopuro Village were given intensive training on how to utilize organic waste as a growing medium for mushrooms, from the processing process to the right cultivation techniques.

Participants not only gained new insights into more environmentally friendly waste management, but also practical skills that can be directly applied and have the potential to generate economic benefits. With mentoring from experienced speakers, it is hoped that residents will be able to continue cultivating mushrooms independently and contribute to reducing the accumulation of organic waste in their environment.

The BERMESA MEA 2024 program in RW 03, Madyopuro Village has succeeded in becoming an initiative that encourages active community participation in the management of organic and inorganic waste, which focuses on innovation in mushroom cultivation using organic waste as a growing medium. This initiative is not only a concrete solution to the waste problem, but also empowers the community with new skills that have the potential to improve the local economy. The success of this program is supported by the enthusiasm of the community and close collaboration between the committee and the community, which shows that concern for the environment can be realized through small steps taken together.

Cadres of Environemnt in RW 03, Madyopuro Village are a group of people who play a voluntary role in maintaining, preserving, and improving the quality of the environment in their area. They were formed to play an active role in environmental protection efforts, such as waste management, reforestation, clean water conservation, and various other environmental programs that are beneficial to the local community.

In this group, there are 14 people who voluntarily devote their time and energy to implementing various environmentally friendly activities. Their duties and responsibilities include educating the community, inviting residents to get involved in sustainable activities, and monitoring the condition of the surrounding environment. Thus, these environmental cadres are the main drivers in creating a healthier, cleaner, and more sustainable environment in RW 03, Madyopuro Village.

Through this program, it is hoped that it can increase public awareness about the importance of sustainable waste management and have a positive impact on the environment.

With sustainable training and mentoring, it is hoped that the community will be able to develop new skills in processing waste, so that it not only helps reduce the volume of waste, but also open up business opportunities that are beneficial to the local economy. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
