Prof. Solimun: Flexible and Adaptive Modeling (FAM) as a Development of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM)

Prof. Dr. Ir. Solimun, M.S

Prof. Dr. Ir. Solimun, M.S was inaugurated as a Professor in the Field of Management Statistics, Thursday (01/30/2025), at the Samantha Krida Building, Universitas Brawijaya (UB). He is the 33rd active Professor at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, and the 232nd active Professor at UB, as well as the 408th Professor of all Professors produced by UB.

He created Flexible and Adaptive Modeling (FAM) as a development of Structural Equation Modeling (SEM).

Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) analysis for Management Statistics in theses, dissertations and journal articles in Indonesia places the highest rank, as much as 30-50%. This shows that SEM is a very useful and important data analysis method.

Prof. Dr. Ir. Solimun, M.S

The dynamics of the use of SEM found that in the outer model (first, second, and high order) the indicators have mixed data (numerical and categorical), namely ordinal, interval and ratio. It was also found that in the inner model the nature of the relationship is nonlinear and even nonparametric, which cannot be approached with standard linear or polynomial models. Therefore, innovation is needed to develop SEM into Flexible and Adaptive Modeling (FAM).

This indicates that there is a need to continue to develop data analysis methods that are in accordance with the complexity of the real world. FAM offers solutions and hope for researchers to analyze varied data and complex models and obtain more accurate results. The development of FAM is an important step in advancing the field of quantitative methodology. FAM offers a potential solution to overcome the limitations of SEM and paves the way for more innovative research. [Irene/ UB PR/ Trans. Iir]
