The Master of Agricultural Economics Study Program, Universitas Brawijaya, held a strategic meeting with the Graduate School of Agriculture Kyoto University, Japan to strengthen research collaboration. The meeting, which is part of the Lecturer Works (Dokar) Program, is to establish closer collaboration in research and education collaboration, which is expected to provide significant benefits for both institutions.
The team from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya was represented by Dr. Ir. Suhartini, MP., as the Head of the Agricultural Economics Masters Study Program, FP UB, along with other FP UB lecturers, namely Deny Meitasari, SP., MSc., and Prof. Dr. Agr. Sc. Hagus Tarno, SP., MP. Meanwhile, Kyoto University was represented by Prof. Dr. Motoki Akitsu, as the Chair of the International Exchange Committee, together with Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kenta Sakanashi and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Feuer Hart Nadav, who focuses on Natural Resource Economics on (10/22/2024) at Kyoto University, Japan
One of the main focuses of the meeting is research related to organic farming led by Dr. Suhartini, which has produced a draft of a scientific article which is ready to be published in a reputable international journal. This draft will then be reviewed by scientists from Kyoto University before being published
Dr. Ir. Suhartini, MP., as the team leader, said that this collaboration is expected to expand the scope of research in the field of agricultural economics, especially in the field of resource and environmental economics and sustainability in the agricultural sector and to expand the network of cooperation with world-class reputable universities as well as to further update global knowledge and insights. Prof. Dr. Motoki Akitsu from Kyoto University also emphasized the importance of cross-country research that is able to integrate global perspectives into local practices.
In addition, Prof. Hagus Tarno, who serves as the Head of the Double Degree and Foreign Student Services Division of Universitas Brawijaya, is also an alumnus of Kyoto University, emphasizing the importance of sustainability and expansion of academic networks through this program.
He also said that GSA Kyoto University has sent two important documents, namely the Student Exchange Agreement and the General Memorandum for Academic Cooperation and Exchange, which will be the basis for developing cooperation programs in various academic and research fields.
As a basis for implementing this collaboration, the two universities will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA). The MoA is an extension of the MoA that has been made between GSA Kyoto University and FP and FTP Universitas Brawijaya. There are two documents that have been sent by GSA Kyoto University to UB, namely the Student Exchange Agreement and the General Memorandum for Academic Cooperation and Exchange. The General Memorandum for Academic Cooperation and Exchange includes points of cooperation, namely: Exchange of Scientific Materials, Publications and Information; Exchange for Faculty Members; Exchange of Students; and Joint Research and Meeting for Research.
“Collaboration with Kyoto University will strengthen Universitas Brawijaya’s position in the global arena, provide opportunities for lecturers and students to gain international academic experience, and contribute to the development of science in the field of agriculture,” said Prof. Hagus Tarno.
The meeting also emphasized the important aspect of knowledge exchange between lecturers and students, Kyoto University’s involvement provides an opportunity for Universitas Brawijaya students to learn the latest innovations in agricultural technology and sustainability. This is expected to improve academic quality and provide students with a broader perspective in research.
The meeting also included further discussions with Prof. Dr. Shusuke Matsushita and Prof. Dr. Motoki Akitsu regarding plans for further studies for UB lecturers at Kyoto University.
