Universitas Brawijaya (UB) on Tuesday (9/7/2024) received a visit from Miyazaki Prefecture Japan. The group consisted of approximately 6 people was received directly by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs UB Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, MP., on the 8th Floor of the UB Rectorate Building.
They are Hamasuna Hironori and Imuta Shinsaku (Miyazaki Agriculture and Irrigation Service), Watanabe Yasuhito (JA Cooperatives), Horiuchi Shoei (International Human Support Cooperatives), and Ito Ken and Sri Novita (JobJepang.com)
Meanwhile, from UB itself, in addition to being attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, the Head of the UPT UB International Academic Affairs, Dr. Didik Hartono, SS., M.Pd., and representatives from three related faculties, namely from the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Cultural Studies and from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
Head of UPT IAA UB, Dr. Didik Hartono, SS., M.Pd., in his explanation said that the visit from Miyazaki Prefecture Japan to Indonesia brought several agendas, including their desire to build a kind of sister city cooperation with Malang City Government, and the second was a visit to UB, where they wanted to establish cooperation with especially 3 faculties in UB, namely the Faculty of Agriculture, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Faculty of Cultural Studies, especially in the Japanese Literature Study Program.
“Well, those who attended were the Miyazaki Provincial Office. From the presentation they gave, it seems like they have a problem with a shortage of workers, especially in the agricultural sector, so it seems from there that the intent and purpose of their coming here is to establish cooperation to meet the agricultural workforce there, both for students as internships or for alumni to work full time there, it seems,” he explained.
Didik also said that from the presentation shown, there are several examples of their programs with universities in Vietnam that could possibly be implemented with UB to meet that goal. And UB certainly hopes that it will be a mutually beneficial collaboration.
“We also need practical experience abroad, we send students to practice or do academic activities abroad which is also one of the doors for us and for them of course to the need for workers or yes, for their fields experiencing a decrease in numbers can be met,” hoped Didik.
UB Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, MP., on that occasion, welcomed the visit and conveyed several things including the need for follow-up and deeper communication not only with UB but also with the East Java Government.
“Regarding human resources, especially high school or vocational high school graduates. And East Java has many agricultural high schools that we might be able to collaborate with later. If I look at the concept earlier, they can be trained first at the university here. And we can collaborate first with Japan or with Miyazaki Prefecture about the material modules that must be provided, so that later the Faculty of Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, and the Faculty of Agricultural Technology and the Faculty of Cultural Studies can become the home of this training,” he said.
Prof. Imam certainly hopes that there will be cooperation between the East Java government and Miyazaki Prefecture first. “This is important in my opinion, if this already exists then we will follow up by communicating with the East Java government so that UB can become one of the training places because maybe there is a gap in certain skills that are needed there, so that later it will be related to middle-class workers or for skilled workers such as vocational schools that want to be sent, it really suits the needs in Miyazaki,” he concluded.
