The Position of Universitas Brawijaya in the Webometrics international rating agency at the end of July 2021 rises to the 4th rank compared to January 2021 edition which was 5th ranked of Indonesian universities.
UB rises based on three indicators, namely web content impact or visibility, openness or transparency, and excellence or scholar.
The Head of UB Rating Center, Adharul Mutaqin S.T., M.T., explained that the web content impact indicator is measured based on the number of backlinks from other sites to a university’s web page, this indicator has a weight of 50%.
Opennes, the second indicator with a weight of 10%, is measured by the number of citations from 210 authors of a university with the highest citations in Google Scholar.
While the last indicator, namely excellence, is measured based on the number of scientific works of a university that are in the highest 10% of citations for 27 topics or disciplines on Scimago.

“In the openess rank, the number of citations in the top 10 authors for this July edition, there is an increased number of citations to the 200 best UB writers with the most citations. In addition, the impact rank is at number 9 of all universities in Indonesia, which means that there are many agencies outside UB that have linked to UB main website,” he said.
However, there are several things that must be considered so that UB position is not thrown too far.
“To maintain or increase the ranking, all we have to do is obey the Webometrics rules at least as it is now done. Then, maintain the Google Scholar account so that it is truly valid, and ensure that our research publication activities are indexed on Google Scholar, “said Adarul.
One of the efforts that can be made for universities is to encourage scientific publications related to interesting topics so that more and more people cite citations,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Aulanni’am, drh., DES appreciates UB achievements this time.
“It is an excellent achievement. Thank you to all the teams who have been very helpful in achieving UB ranking this time on Webometrics,” said Aul.
UB Rector, Prof. Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani, AR., M.S., expressed his gratitude for the increase in the ranking achieved by UB in Webometrics.
According to him, with the achievements achieved this time, it proves that UB is still productive even though it is in the COVID-19 pandemic.
