Universitas Brawijaya (UB) is in the 666th position among world universities in the ranking conducted by Uni Rank or 4ICU January 2021 edition. Meanwhile, for the ranking of universities in Indonesia, Universitas Brawijaya is in the sixth rank.
The Secretary of LP3M UB Ranking Center, Adharul Muttaqin, ST., MT, explained that 4ICU is a web traffic-based or web metrics-based international university ranking site.
“So it can be said, because assessing a university based on website traffic, 4ICU is a university website ranking and does not directly describe its academic quality,” he said.
The lecturer of the Department of Electrical Engineering explained that the methodology used is to use several indexing sites such as Moz, Alexa, Majestic, and SimilarWeb.
“All of these indexers have no relation to academic activities, but are related to website traffic,” he explained.
Therefore, Adharul suggested that the quality of information should be improved in the future to make it interesting to be visited or to be shared again in other media. From the quality of this information, it will be able to describe what and how a university is.
“One of the efforts that can be done is for example by placing an information link on UB website when sharing information on social media such as IG or Twitter. This can lead social media users to visit ub.ac.id site, “he said.
Another effort that must be made is to provide education to the public about the 4ICU rating.
