Farmers in Kalang Village Magetan, Gain New Knowledge About Quality Feed

A Community Service Team led by Dr. Asri Nurul Huda conducted an outreach program for farmers and livestock breeders in Kalang Village, Sidorejo Subdistrict, Magetan Regency. The event was attended by 20 breeders and village officials, three speakers, two instructors, and 14 student participants from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya.

The program aimed to enhance the breeders’ understanding of the standards for feed requirements and provision for beef cattle. The speakers provided material on the importance of quality feed that meets the needs of livestock. Additionally, there were practical sessions on making silage, complete feed, and Urea Molasses Block (UMB), guided by the student participants.

Throughout the event, discussions were highly interactive. The farmers and breeders in Kalang Village were enthusiastic about developing their livestock businesses, which include goats, sheep, and beef cattle for fattening purposes. The technologies already implemented in the village include the production of UMB and silage for forage preservation.

Suwardi, the Head of Kalang Village, stated that support from higher education institutions is crucial in motivating breeders to increase their livestock productivity. He added, “We hope that through this program, breeders can become more motivated and gain new knowledge and technologies to optimize their livestock businesses.”

Dr. Asri Nurul Huda remarked, “This activity is an effort to provide practical solutions related to livestock feed, especially in facing challenges such as rising feed prices and the availability of forage during the dry season. We hope this program can help breeders improve their livestock productivity.” (dfh)
