Brawijaya University (UB) welcomed 150 inbound students from the Independent Student Exchange (PMM) program for the 2023/2024 academic year. The reception was carried out by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ir. Imam Santoso, M.P, Friday (08/03/2024), at the Widyaloka Building.
Imam Santoso congratulated the 150 students who had successfully passed the PMM batch 4, and were accepted at a large campus with 72 thousand students from 34 provinces in Indonesia. Imam said that UB has a good academic atmosphere, which can be seen from the students who are studying comfortably or doing assignments in the campus area even at night.
“It is an honor to be able to join PMM UB. Make the most of the opportunities, not only to gain academic knowledge, but also to interact and learn about Indonesian culture,” he said.
Director of the Directorate of Administration and Academic Services, Dr. Rosihan Asmara, S.P., M.P reported, the 150 inbound PMM batch 4 students were the result of selection from 4,100 students from universities throughout Indonesia who applied to take part in PMM at UB.
“In the monitoring and evaluation carried out by the Ministry of Education and Culture, UB was considered good at managing PMM. Therefore, seeing the large number of interested parties, we hope that the quota for inbound PMM can be increased,” he said.
This meeting also presented the Secretary of the Directorate of Administration and Academic Services, Arif Hidayat, S.Kom., M.M, who socialized academic information system services, related to academic modules, finance, classrooms and student activities.
One of the PMM batch 4 inbound students, Hibrizi Muhammad Harahap from Malikussaleh University, Aceh, told Prasetya Online that he took four courses in the Agroecotechnology department (Agroforestry, Pesticides and Application Techniques, Greenhouse and Hydroponic Management, and Horticultural Crop Production Technology), as well as two courses at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (Essential Microbiology, and Industrial Microbiology and Biotechnology).
Hibrizi explained that he succeeded in passing PMM UB after passing the administrative selection stages, diversity test and vcat test. The courses he took were linear with his major at his home university, namely Agroecotechnology, Faculty of Agriculture. He and other inbound students will study at UB for one semester.
“UB is one of my dream campuses since high school. And I took that course because I didn’t want to miss out on my courses at my home campus, and at the same time I wanted to experience the comparison of laboratories and practicums at my home campus and UB. The differences can definitely be felt, starting from more complete equipment and lots of laboratory space,” said the young man who is also the Head of PMM batch 4.
Hibrizi expressed his gratitude to UB because communication between UB and PMM students was good, starting from pick-up at the airport, dormitory, academic process, until now.
“We hope that PMM friends will not group together with friends from the same university. Let’s take advantage of the exchange of culture, thoughts, knowledge and all the good things that can be developed in our place of origin. Use PMM to broaden your insight into Indonesian culture and academic knowledge, so that it is in line with the PMM4 theme: temporarily exchange, means forever,” concluded Hibrizi.
