Preparing ASEAN Economic Community, Faculty of Law and Directorate General of Customs Holds a Guest Lecture

Director General of East Java Customs Nirwala wi  Heryanto, S.E, M.SiStudent concentration of Administrative Law Faculty of Law organized customs guest lecture themed “Customs Policy as Export Import Intensification in Dealing with ASEAN Economic Community” located at Faculty of Law’s auditorium. By inviting East Java Regional Office Head of Directorate General of Customs, Nirwala Dwi Heryanto, S.E., M.Si.

The event followed by Taxation Department students Faculty of Administrative Sciences and also Faculty of Law. The event organized on Tuesday (22/Mar/2016) aimed to give insight or understanding and also customs strategy in order to build a better Indonesia.

In her presentation, Nirwala explained about challenges in facing ASEAN Economic Community like Indonesian’s competitiveness in ASEAN. Indonesian economic growth level in 2014 reaches 5.1%. In competitiveness ranking, Indonesia occupies the 34th position in the globe for the year of 2014-2015, is still under Singapore, (2), Malaysia (20), Brunei Darussalam (26) and Thailand (31).

“Recently Indonesia has a deficit balance of trade in ASEAN. A country with the largest profit by ASEAN establishment is Singapore, followed by Thailand and Malaysia,” said Nirwala, still about ASEAN Economic Community challenges namely to be focused on Indonesian trade in ASEAN.

Nirwala also delivered in facing ASEAN Economic Community competitiveness challenges, Directorate General of Customs has policy like Bonded Logistics Centre (Pusat Logistik Berikat/PLB), Indonesia National Single Window, Indonesia Single Risk Management and also addition and strengthening overseas attache. Meanwhile in facing ASEAN Economic Community challenges in trade, Directorate General of Customs has a Time Release Study (TRS). TRS will give benefits to increase national competitiveness, seaport performance and trade facilities and attracting investment. [dinda/Vicky/Humas UB/trans. Denok]
