Library Holds UB Library Class Presenting Experts in the Field of Education Management

Brawijaya University Library held UB Library Class event which presented Johan Jang, an expert in the field of Customer Success Manager at Elsevier Asia Pacific (APAC), to share knowledge on a very important topic, “Choosing the Right Journals and Avoiding Predatory Publications”. This publication training event was held in Meeting Room 1, UB Library Building

Johan Jang, who is known as an expert in supporting researchers and academics, provides insight into important steps in choosing the right journal for publication, as well as how to avoid predatory publications that can harm research reputation.

“Predatory journals and publishers are entities that prioritize self-interest, the expense of scholarship and are characterized by false or misleading information, deviation from best editorial and publication practices, lack of transparency and/or use of aggressive and indiscriminate solicitation practices,” he said.

Predatory publications refer to scientific journals or publishers that lack of high ethical and quality standards in the publishing process. Common characteristics of predatory publications involve detrimental practices such as unfair or unprofessional peer review, publishing costs that are disproportionate to the service provided, and a focus on profit rather than scientific integrity. Predatory journals often attract researchers with promises of quick and easy publication without rigorously checking the quality and scientific validity of submitted articles.

This event is part of UB Library’s efforts to provide useful and relevant training for lecturers and students in developing their research. Library Class is not just training, but also an opportunity for participants to ask Johan Jang directly about various aspects related to scientific publications. It is hoped that after attending this event, participants will have a better understanding of how to choose journals that suit their research field and avoid unethical publications.

The participants of the event consisted of lecturers and students.
