Library Holds Bibliometrix Training for UB Lecturers

As a follow-up to the Scopus Article Writing Training previously held at UB Guest House, the Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Library held a Bibliometrix Training on (16/12–19/12/2024) to optimize the use of e-resources and increase the academic productivity of lecturers in producing Scopus-indexed scientific articles. Held in four batches in Meeting Room 1 of UB Library Building, 1st Floor, this activity started at 09.00 WIB until finished. With an average of 50 participants per batch, this training provides flexibility for lecturers to adjust their schedules to their teaching activities.

This training presents Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si., as the main speaker. Pitoyo provided an in-depth explanation of the Bibliometrix method, a comprehensive approach to bibliometric research that utilizes statistical methods and visualization tools to analyze trends, patterns, and relationships in scientific publications.

“Bibliometrix helps lecturers understand the structure and evolution of scientific fields, identify future research trends, and recognize relevant scientific collaborations. This approach also provides strategic insights to support more focused research directions,” explained Pitoyo.

This training uses R Studio software with the Biblioshiny interface. This combination makes it easier for participants, including those who are less familiar with R programming, to conduct bibliometric analysis interactively and user-friendly.

“Bibliometrix is a very useful tool, especially for lecturers who want to understand the dynamics of scientific collaboration, determine important figures and institutions in a particular field, or even analyze citation maps visually,” he added.

Through this training, UB lecturers are expected to be able to optimize the e-resources available at UB Library, utilize bibliometric data to support quality scientific publications, improve collaboration and wider research networks, and identify new research opportunities based on trend analysis.

Bibliometrix training is one of the strategic initiatives of Universitas Brawijaya Library to optimize the use of e-resources, encourage the improvement of the quality and quantity of academic publications. In addition, this activity also supports the target of Universitas Brawijaya in expanding scientific contributions at the international level.

“This similar training is very important to support lecturers in optimizing their research potential. By understanding scientific data analysis in depth, we can bring UB’s research to a higher level,” concluded Pitoyo. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
