Competitions to Celebrate the 79th Indonesian Independence Day at UB

In order to commemorate the 79th Indonesian Independence Day, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held a series of exciting competitions on August 17, 2024. This competition was not only an entertainment event, but also a form of respect for the heroes who had fought for the nation’s independence. The participants of the competition, consisting of lecturers, education staff, and students, stated that their participation in this competition was a form of gratitude and respect for the services of the heroes.

One of the participants said, “This is a form of appreciation from us, the people, to appreciate the struggle of the heroes who have sacrificed their souls and bodies for Indonesia’s independence. We, the young, only have to fill this independence, we must be more enthusiastic to continue their struggle, even through competitions and other positive things.”

When asked about the preparation for the competition, the participant explained, “First, we need to prepare ourselves, prepare our hearts to honor the heroes. Then, physical preparation is also important to face this competition. Winning or losing is a matter for later, what is important is that the spirit and unity are maintained.”

Ayu Fury Puspita, S.E., M.S.A., Ak., as a Lecturer at FEB and also the Chairperson of the Organizing Committee for the competition at UB, explained that this competition is not only part of the celebration of the Republic of Indonesia’s Independence Day, but also the celebration of UB’s Dies Natalis. “There are 8 types of competitions that we are holding, namely Sack Race, Eating Crackers, Eel Catching Relay, Eating Biscuits from the Forehead, Tug of War, Hooked Hats, Rubber Faces, and Marbles. These competitions were chosen because they have values ​​of togetherness and mutual cooperation that are very much in line with the spirit of the commemoration of independence and UB’s Dies Natalis,” she said.

The target participants for this competition include the entire UB academic community, with the number of participants estimated to reach 130 people consisting of representatives from each faculty and work unit. “We hope that all lecturers, education staff, and students can participate, because in addition to enlivening the Indonesian Independence Day, this is also a form of togetherness in celebrating UB’s anniversary,” added Mrs. Fury.

The winners of each competition will be announced directly on the day of the competition, but the prize giving will be done at UB Anniversary Healthy Walk event on December 15, 2024. With a high spirit of togetherness, it is hoped that this event can strengthen relations between UB academics and foster a sense of nationalism among students and staff. (WDD/KAN/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
