Strengthening Cooperation in the Development of Halal Detection Kit and Food Security, Universitas Brawijaya Visits PT. Biocare Sejahtera Cikarang

Universitas Brawijaya (UB) on Thursday (11/28/2024) visited PT. Biocare Sejahtera Cikarang as part of the 2024 Product Development Program (PDP) partner visit agenda. The collaboration, which has entered its fourth year, focuses on innovation and product development in the field of halal detection and food safety.

The visit by the UB team consisting of Dr. Ir. Joni Kusnadi, MSi; Prof. Dr. Ir. Estri Laras Arumingtyas, M.Sc.St .; Inggang Perwangsa Nuralam, S.E., MBA., Ph.D .; Candra Irwanto, S.Pd .; and Lutfiani Ainur Nisa, S.TP., was received directly by representatives of PT. Biocare Sejahtera, consisting of Iwan, Hilda, Surya Pramono, and Devi.

In the meeting, the two parties discussed the development of PCR detection kits and extraction kits for 2024, as well as plans for a halal community training program for 22 halal test standard laboratories in 2025. In addition, there is a commitment to establish a halal laboratory together with UB and PT. Biocare Sejahtera at the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP), Universitas Brawijaya.

On that occasion, Biocare Sejahtera also conveyed plans to develop a new species detection kit to support food safety, such as detection of beef or offal content in feed, as well as detection of meatball counterfeiting. Initial limited-scale kit production of 100-150 units is scheduled to take place in December 2024 at the Biocare production facility located in the Cikarang industrial area.

To support smooth product distribution, the distribution permits are being processed, including the submission of the Halalcare brand with joint ownership between Biocare and UB. The brand name and other supporting documents will be further coordinated with the Ministry of Health. The UB team will also ensure the Halalcare brand through checking with DIKST.

The results of this visit resulted in several follow-up plans, including Limited Scale Kit Production (UB and Biocare teams will produce detection kits at the Cikarang factory in December 2024), Online Guest Lectures (planned guest lectures with the topic of product implementation and marketing by Biocare), Management of Distribution Permits and Brands (continued by Biocare with assistance from UB), Comparative Testing (preparation of comparative testing with LLT UB to support product validation) and Coordination with BPJPH (ensuring communication with the new Head of BPJPH for the smooth running of the halal test process).

This strategic collaboration demonstrates the commitment of UB and PT. Biocare Sejahtera in providing innovative solutions for halal detection and food safety needs in Indonesia. With a spirit of collaboration, both parties are optimistic that they can make a significant contribution to supporting a safer and healthier Indonesian society. (andz/ron/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
