Faculty of Engineering (FT) continues to support the internationalization program of Universitas Brawijaya (UB). After cooperating with many universities in Asia, this time FTUB is expanding to Europe.
The news came from the FTUB Water Resources Engineering (WRE). Dean of FTUB, Prof. Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, M.T., IPU., Representing FTUB signed an MoU with IHE Delft, the largest international graduate water education facility in the world and is based in Delft, the Netherlands.
The signing process is done separately. Delft IHE Rector, Prof. Eddy Moors signed the MoU on October 2, then the documents were sent to the FTUB and signed by the Dean on Monday, November 9, 2020 and sent back to the Netherlands.
This collaboration began with a guest lecture from Prof. Dano Roelvink, Dr. Ali Dastgheib, and Dr. Alvaro Semedo at the end of 2019. The discussion and planning became even more serious with the arrival of Dr. Alvaro Semedo for the second time at FTUB.
The decision to partner with IHE Delft was not without reason. IHE Delft Institute for Water Education is the largest international postgraduate education institution in the field of water resources in the world.
Established in 1957, IHE Delft has graduated more than 23,000 professionals from 190 countries. The institute offers Masters and Doctoral programs in collaboration with partner universities such as Delft University of Technology, University of Amsterdam, University of Twente, and Wageningen University & Research.
In addition, IHE Delft is affiliated with UNESCO and UN-Water, a UN agency that functions to coordinate UN agencies related to water/water resources to solve problems about water in the world.
“We want to increase the capacity and strengthen the position of the WRE Department not only as an educational institution in the field of water resources in Indonesia but also to widen scientific work and contribute internationally in Asia and Europe,” said Prof. Pitojo who is also a Water Resources Expert.
Head of WRE Department, Dr. Ir. Ussy Andawayanti, M.S., on a separate occasion also said that in connection with the cooperation that had been initiated, the two parties had compiled several work programs which unfortunately had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Many programs must be postponed until the pandemic is over. Therefore the signing and meeting related to this MoU done online and offline,” he concluded. (mic)
