The Faculty of Computer Science (FILKOM) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) now has a new space which is an attraction for the students. Wednesday (6/9/2023), FILKOM UB officially inaugurated the “Game Corner”, a special room intended for students to spend their free time between lectures. This Game Corner is a form of collaboration between FILKOM UB and Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI). The location of the Game Corner room is in F Building, 1st floor in front of the Academic Services Counter.
FILKOM Game Corner is not only a relaxing place for students, but also a place for them to hone their gaming skills and create innovations for students who will create and develop games. This room is equipped with 2 Play Station 5 units; 2 XBOX units, and 1 Asus ROG gaming PC unit with high specifications that are ready to pamper students.
This inauguration was attended by the Dean of FILKOM along with the Deans and Faculty Leaders, Representatives from Bank BRI as well as several FILKOM students who seemed enthusiastic about trying to play the game consoles in the Game Corner. In his speech, the Dean of FILKOM UB, Prof. Ir. Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, S.Si., MT., Ph.D. said that it is hoped that this initiative can become a forum for students who often look for activities outside of lectures when waiting for lecture hours.
“We understand that students currently need a recreation room that can facilitate their hobbies, as well as a place for them to socialize with fellow faculty members,” explained Prof. Wayan.
In addition, with the Game Corner, FILKOM UB also hopes to encourage the creation of game developers among students, because FILKOM itself also has a laboratory that supports game development, namely the MGM Lab (Mobile, Game and Multimedia).
Of course, even though it is called Game Corner, there are game rules that visitors must obey. To ensure that academic activities remain a priority, this room will only be open outside class hours and there will be an SOP for permission to use game consoles.
It is hoped that with the existence of this Game Corner, the spirit of togetherness and creativity among FILKOM UB students can continue to develop.
