The activity was successfully carried out in collaboration between Community Facility PSDKU UB Kediri and Makmur Jaya Abadi Dairy Farmers Group which was held in Ngaglik Village, Srengat District, Blitar Regency, East Java Province, Sunday (16/7/2023). Present as a guest speaker, the Head of the Community Service Team, Prof. Dr. Ir. Puguh Surjowardojo, MP. along with team members, Hanum Muarifah, S.Pt., M.Sc., Zia ul Rahman Fithron S.Pt., M.B.A., Supriyadi S.Pi. MP. Rifa’i, S.Pt., M.Pt.; as well as the support team, Danis Setya Nandika, Aditya cahya wardhana.

Prof. Puguh, a lecturer on the interest in dairy cattle, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Universitas Brawijaya, said that the community service activity is a concrete manifestation of Tri Dharma in higher education. Universitas Brawijaya is committed to being present in the community through community service activities.

“Milk contains complete nutrients, which is why calves need to consume milk for several weeks after birth. However, before giving birth to a dairy cow, it must go through a dry period. At this time, dairy cows are susceptible to mastitis because during the dry period the cows are not milked and it is better if the teats of lactating dairy cows need to be given sterilization treatment such as post-milking teat dipping to prevent mastitis,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hanum asked the farming community how important it is to maintain the health and cleanliness of dairy cows. Mastitis can be an expensive disease for dairy cows, because when cows are infected with mastitis the milk produced is unfit for consumption and cannot be sold, so that the farmer does not have any income from milk and even has to pay for mastitis treatment costs.
