Universitas Brawijaya (UB) mourns the passing of one of its great figures, Prof. Drs. H.M. Hasyim Baisoeni. The UB Rector for the 1994-1998 period passed away at the age of 87, Tuesday, December 10, 2024.
UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Si., Ph.D.Med.Sc together with the leadership and academic community paid their last tribute on the first floor of the Rectorate Building, followed by a funeral prayer at the Raden Patah UB Mosque, Wednesday (11/12/2024).
“He was a leader who had devoted his dedication to the advancement of higher education, especially at UB. During his leadership, the university achieved many important milestones that were very significant and the impacts can be felt to this day. One of them, he was very focused on encouraging lecturers to study further. And due to his efforts, many UB lecturers have succeeded in studying at the highest level, and have become professors,” said Prof. Widodo.
Some of the innovations created by the deceased are as follows. First, the deceased was the first rector to form the Position of Vice Rector IV for Planning and Cooperation which was a visionary and strategic step to strengthen the development and management of the university. Second, he was the first rector to form the Bureau of Planning and Information Systems (BAPSI) which became the basis for digital transformation at UB. Third, the first Rector who launched UB’s website until UB could develop and be known by the public. Fourth, the deceased launched the Integrated High Strengthening Management Information System (SIMPT) application which supports efficiency and facilitates the integration of information management in UB.
“He was an early adopter in implementing technology to improve efficiency and transparency in UB. He not only built academic foundations, but also laid the foundations of innovation that we continue to feel the benefits of until now. His passing leaves deep sorrow, but we believe that the knowledge he spread, the policies he built, and the example he showed us, InshaAllah, will become a reward that continues to flow,” said the Rector.
Representing the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Vice Dean of FT for Academic Affairs Dr.Eng.Ir. Indradi Wijatmiko, S.T., M.Eng (Prac) also expressed his condolences for the passing of a leader, father, teacher and role model.
“Hopefully all his good deeds, worship, virtues, kindness, and all his time, thoughts, and hard work for the faculty, university, and wider community can be accepted by Allah SWT, and placed in the best place. Hopefully his exemplary behavior will continue to be implemented and become an unbroken sharia charity,” said Indradi.
Prof. Drs. H.M. Hasyim Baisoeni was born in Pamekasan, April 1, 1937. The deceased began his career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering UB, became Head of LPPM UB for the period 1979-1984, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences for the period 1991-1994, and Rector of UB for the period 1994-1998.
