An obituary has come to Brawijaya University. Professor at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences, Brawijaya University (FKIP UB) who is also the Vice Rector for Student Affairs for the 2015-2019 period, Prof. Dr. Ir. Arief Prajitno, MS., passed away on Sunday (03/03/2024) due to illness.
Prof. Arief (late) was born in Bojonegoro on February 13 1955 and left behind a wife and three children.
He completed the Bachelor’s program in Fisheries Science at FPIK UB in 1983, then in 1989 completed the Master’s program at Bogor Agricultural Institute, and in 2007 completed the Doctoral program in Agricultural Science at UB.
When he was inaugurated as Professor in April 2009, the deceased gave a scientific oration in the field of Parasite and Fish Disease entitled “Bio-active Natural Seaweed (Halimeda Opuntia L) for Disease Control of Tiger Prawns (Penaesus monodon Fab)”.
Prof. Arief (late) started his career as a lecturer at FPIK in 1980 until now.
He received the Satyalancana Karya Satya XX award in 2005 and Satyalancana Karya Satya XXX in 2018 from the President of the Republic of Indonesia.
Dean of FPIK, Prof. Dr. Ir. Maftuch, M.Si., admitted that Prof. Arief is someone who has a role model attitude in his daily life. He often takes turns being the leader of midday prayers at the Fatahillah UB mosque.
“He gave many good things to institutions and the academic community. His 40 years of service have resulted in much learning, research and innovation. He is FPIK’s best person,” he said. (FHN/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
