The 2024 PNBP Research Team, led by Rini Dwi Wahyuni, M.Sc., S.Pt., MP., conducted a farmer assistance program on the use of calf starter feed at KOP SAE Pujon on November 1, 2024. This event included team members Dr. Ir. Hermanto, M.P., and Artharini Irsyammawati, MP., with support from the research group team consisting of Prof. Dr. Ir. Ifar Subagiyo, Dr. Ir. Siti Nurul Kamaliuah, MP., and doctoral student Rizka Muizzu Aprilia, M.Pt. A total of six farmers attended the event.
The collaboration between KOP SAE Pujon and the Livestock Feed Plant Research Group from the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (Fapet UB), aims to assist 25 farmer members in using calf starter feed as a supplementary feed alongside milk for calves. This assistance program will last for 30 days, starting on November 15, 2024. The objective is for farmers to adopt proper calf-rearing management practices, resulting in optimal livestock performance and production.
In his statement, Ir. Supriyono, Manager of KOP SAE Pujon, said, “The assistance program on the use of calf starter as a supplementary feed alongside milk for calves is a joint effort to improve calf performance. We hope this initiative will accelerate the transition from calf to heifer ready for breeding, which in turn will positively impact milk production during the lactation phase.”
Through this initiative, KOP SAE Pujon is committed to supporting farmers in optimizing the quality of their livestock, thereby contributing to the sustainability and productivity of the dairy industry in the region. mtn
