Library, FPPTI East Java and LSP Hold Independent Librarian Certification

The Building of Universitas Brawijaya Library witnessed the opening of the Librarian Certification (Independent) which was the result of collaboration between the East Java Indonesian Higher Education Library Forum (FPPTI), the Universitas Brawijaya Library, and the Librarian Professional Certification Institute (LSP). This event opened on June 19 2024 and was attended directly by the assessors while the assesses attended via zoom. The certification implementation took place from 20 to 21 June 2024, attended by 89 participants consisting of 39 institutions in East Java, as well as several participants from outside East Java such as Lampung, Makassar, Yogyakarta and Bali.

The opening event began with remarks from several important figures in the world of libraries and professional certification. The first speech was given by the Head of LSP Librarian Certification Division, represented by Dr. Opong Sumiati, M.Sc. In his speech, Dr. Opong emphasized the importance of certification in increasing the competence and professionalism of librarians in Indonesia.

“Through this certification, we hope to create librarians who are not only competent, but also able to face the challenges of developments in information technology and the increasingly dynamic needs of library users,” said Dr. Opong.

The next speech was delivered by the Chair of FPPTI East Java, Melati Purba Bestari, S.Sos. Melati expressed her appreciation for the enthusiasm of the participants who came from various regions, showing high enthusiasm for improving the quality of library services in Indonesia.

“This participation from various regions shows how important librarian certification is for improving the quality of library services throughout the country,” said Melati. The number of participants who registered exceeded the initial target of only 60, increasing to 89 people. At the end of her speech, Melati gave a rhyme: “Go to Malang Town Square to buy a bag, then watch the attractions. Let’s increase the quality of librarians by increasing the number of certifications.”

Head of UPT Universitas Brawijaya Library, Dr. Iwan Permadi, S.H., M.Hum, also gave a warm welcome to the participants. Dr. Iwan expressed his pride in the trust given to UB Library as the host of this event and hoped that the existing collaboration could continue for mutual progress.

“We are very grateful for the trust given to UB Library as a venue for holding this important event. “Hopefully this activity can provide great benefits for increasing the professionalism of librarians in Indonesia,” said Dr. Iwan.

The final remarks were delivered by the Secretary General of the Central FPPTI, Amirul Ulum, M.IP. Amirul emphasized the importance of synergy between agencies and institutions in supporting this certification program, in order to produce librarians who are ready to face challenges in the digital era.

“Collaboration between FPPTI, LSP Librarians, and Universitas Brawijaya Library is very important in creating reliable and innovative librarians,” said Amirul.

Attended by participants from various regions, it is hoped that the Librarian Certification (Independet) event will be the first step in creating higher standards of professionalism for librarians, as well as improving the quality of library services in Indonesia. (*/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
