Briefing of MBKM Semeru Participants Batch I, Prof. Widodo: “This is a Learning to Improve the Sense of Humanity”

After the closing of the registration for the first batch of Independent Learning Independent Campus (MBKM) Program Universitas Brawijaya on January 14, 2022, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences on Tuesday (18/1/2022) held a briefing for MBKM Semeru participants in room MC.1.1 MIPA CENTER Building. The activity was held in a hybrid method consisting of a combination of online and offline participants for the first time since the pandemic. The debriefing of MBKM Semeru was attended by around 70 participants from all faculties at Universitas Brawijaya.

The debriefing will last for three (3) days from January 18-20, 2022 with material consisting of 3 topics, namely, Basics of Disaster, Disaster Resilient and Town Watching for hazard mitigation. In MBKM Semeru, each participant is divided into clusters accompanied by a supervisor. The student groups can choose themes including, Mapping the impact of disasters and potential regional development, Trauma healing and children’s education, Maternal, child and community health, Town Watching for hazard mitigation, and Economic and environment recovery at KRB Semeru.

Participants who are scheduled to depart on January 21, must receive sufficient briefing and knowledge to implement MBKM Semeru program.

In his remarks, the Dean of the Faculty of MIPA, Prof. Widodo, M.Sc., Phd.Med.Sc gave his appreciation to MBKM Semeru participants as the young generation who care about the environment affected by Semeru disaster. Widodo said that this activity is a lesson to increase the sense of humanity.

“We must agree to care for the community. Currently, the people of Semeru need our contribution. It is time for students to contribute to change. This MBKM activity is our form of uniting, understanding and doing something for the community. This is Big Things”, he said.

On the first day, the material on the basics of disaster was delivered by Prof. Drs. Adi Susilo, M.Sc., Ph.D, a professor of Mathematics and Natural Sciences in the field of Geophysics and Disaster Sciences. In his presentation, he provided provisions for MBKM Semeru participants about disaster mitigation and its risk.

In MBKM Semeru program, participants can choose a theme about the economy and environmental recovery. One of them is Lia (Socio-Economic Study Program). Lia hopes that by participating in MBKM Semeru program, she can contribute to fostering the community and assisting in economic recovery in Semeru affected areas. (yogie/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
