Launching of Learning Video Portal of FILKOM UB

The Dean of FILKOM, Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, S.Si., MT., Ph.D. said the video portal is a means of maintaining the quality of teaching in providing learning to students. During the current pandemic, learning is usually only through Zoom or GMeet, FILKOM tries new things by providing learning videos that can be accessed easily by students.

There are two platforms used by FILKOM, namely https://filkomub.ap.panopto.com and https://eling.ub.ac.id which can be accessed by lecturers and students.

Panopto itself is an application for streaming as well as recording video teaching which is used in conjunction with presentations of slides or other online resources at FILKOM. This platform is provided to assist lecturers in making learning videos.

Meanwhile, Eling as an online portal in FILKOM, this website contains information on the implementation and various information on learning activities at FILKOM as well as being held remotely. The menu contained in Eling is online lecture services, practical work, thesis and academic guidance.

One of the important elements in the video-based e-Learning applied by FILKOM is the storytelling method in each lecture material delivered by the lecturer.

Storytelling has enormous potential as a method for sharing and disseminating knowledge, especially if information is conveyed in a good and correct way, the knowledge will be easier to understand.

With the help of technology this time, video-based lectures provide a sense of comfort for students, because the students can study anywhere and anytime. In addition, students also have freedom to determine the location that is considered the best for themselves so that they can be more optimal in receiving and understanding learning material.

Entering a new era of transformation of learning, it is necessary to know that the human brain processes images 60,000 times faster than through text, and 90% of the information sent to the brain is in visual form. Supported by the presence of an audio element in stimulating the brain in order to understand the course material better. In accordance with the appeal of the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Dr. Eng Herman Tolle, ST., MT. During the socialization of Eling and Panopto Platform Integration (10/2/2021) he urged lecturers to not only give assignments to students in teaching and learning, but also convey material in each meeting using video lessons. The lecturer prepares the teaching video before the class starts and the video should be divided according to the material presented so that students can more easily understand each material presented.
