Training on the Utilization of AI Platform for Reference Searching from Scopus

The Technical Implementation Unit (UPT) of Library Brawijaya University (UB) presented training entitled “Go Scopus Series: Using the AI Platform to Search References from Scopus” aimed at Doctoral Program students in Meeting Room 1, UB Library Building, 1st Floor, Monday (16/ 10/2023). This event was presented by two expert presenters, namely Mr. Ir. Hery Prayitno and Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si.

In the academic world that continues to develop, Doctoral Program students at UB are faced with demands to obtain quality and relevant reference sources for their research. Scopus, as one of the main academic databases, provides access to thousands of scientific journals, articles and important research in various fields of science. However, to find the most relevant information to their research, students often face challenges in the reference search process.

In this enthusiastic training event, Ir. Hery Prayitno and Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si, shared their knowledge about the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in optimizing reference searches from Scopus. UB Doctoral Program students are here to understand and master AI tools that can help them in a more efficient information search process.

“The use of AI in searching references from Scopus can greatly speed up and simplify this process. AI can help in identifying references that are most relevant to the research topic, avoid repetition, and find connections that may not be visible to humans,” Ir. Hery Prayitno.

UB Librarian, Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si, added that currently, the use of AI technology in research is very important, and we hope that Doctoral Program students at UB will get great benefits from this training, so they can optimize their time to produce quality research.

Some of AI introduced in this training include: Chat PDF, Humata.AI, Perplexiti.AI, Scite.AI, Doc Translator. Chat PDF is an AI that can help us to read articles by asking questions related to our research. This PDF chat is paid, indeed there are free ones but they are limited to only being able to read 3 articles with 20 questions. Then there is Humata.AI which also has the same function, namely to read articles according to our orders. Meanwhile, Perplexiti.AI is used to find definitions of keywords that we use in research.

Students who attended the training had the opportunity to practice directly with the AI platform provided by the presenter. This training is designed to ensure that UB Doctoral Program students can maximize the use of Scopus in their research, improve the quality of their scientific work, and contribute to the development of science.
