Algorithm Design Online Training for Vocational High School Students

The lecturer serving team of FILKOM UB held an online training on Algorithm Design Using Robotics Modules, Saturday (19/9/2020). This event was attended by around 36 Vocational High School (SMK) students, including SMK TELKOM Malang, SMKN 1 Pungging, SMKN 26 Jakarta, SMKN 4 Malang, SMKN 1 Batam, SMK Ma’arif Batu, SMK Telekomunikasi Telesandi Bekasi, SMKN 1 Kepanjen and SMKN 1 Cibinong.
The lecturer team involved in this activity were Wijaya Kurniawan, S.T., M.T. as the team leader, Rizal Maulana, S.T., M.T., M.Sc., Agung Setia Budi, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., Mochammad Hannats Hanafi Ichsan, S.ST., M.T. and Ir. Heru Nurwarsito, M.Kom.
The event was divided into several activity sessions, which are pre-test and post-test as well as two material sessions. On the sidelines of the main session, a question and answer session and games were also held so that participants don’t get bored and can stay focused. The first material about robots in general and parts of the Lego EV3 Mindstorms robot was delivered by Rizal Maulana. Meanwhile, the second material on Lego robot programming was delivered by one of the FILKOM students, Rahmat Yusuf.
In his explanation, Rizal Maulana or who is familiarly called Lana said that robots are technology that can obtain information from the environment, can be programmed and carry out tasks, work automatically, are smart, are usually used in industry and can help humans.
To learn more about robots, some knowledge that must be possessed includes modeling and analysis (mathematics), control systems / controllers, electronic circuits, mechanics, hardware / computer interfacing and computer programming.
During the session, Lana also explained that the Lego EV3 has seven main components, including a large motor, medium motor, EV3 Brick, remote infrared beacon, touch sensor, color sensor and infrared sensor. The seven components were introduced one by one so that participants had a better picture and understanding of the Lego EV3 Robot. Meanwhile, in the second session, Rahmat Yusuf practiced how to program the Lego robot so that it could move as an automatic vehicle. [DNA / Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
