Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Library held a workshop entitled “From Library to Publication: Intensive Training on Writing Scientific Papers for Library Professionals” which was held in Meeting Room 2, UB Library Building, 1st Floor. This event presented the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs of UB, Prof. Dr. Imam Santoso, M.P., and the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences (FPIK), Prof. Dr. Sc. Asep Awaludin Prihanto, S.Pi., M.P., as the main speaker.
In his speech, the Head of UB Library, Dr. Iwan Permadi, SH. M.Hum emphasized the importance of this training as part of the library’s strategic efforts to support the improvement of academic quality and university publications.
“This workshop is held to strengthen the capacity of UB librarians and library staff in writing quality scientific papers so that librarians and library staff not only act as information providers, but also contributors in the academic field,” explained the Head of UB Library.
Dr. Iwan Permadi, S.H., M.Hum appealed to all participants to take advantage of this moment by learning directly from two speakers who have published many scientific papers in reputable international journals, including the Q1-Scopus journal. “Learning from those who are experienced and able to enter the Scopus Q1 journal is a valuable opportunity for all of us. Hopefully, UB librarians can bring new enthusiasm and skills from this training to support UB’s academic productivity at the national and international levels,” he added.
In the first session, Prof. Imam Santoso delivered the material “A Glance at Writing Books and Scientific Articles”, which emphasized the importance of librarians’ contribution in improving UB’s academic image through publication in reputable journals. “The role of UB librarians is important to encourage the productivity of scientific works, so that we can compete globally,” said Prof. Imam.
Continued with the second session, Prof. Asep Awaludin delivered the material “Optimizing the Skills of Writing Books and Scientific Articles”, which focused on effective and structured writing techniques. “We must admit that writing is not easy, but it can be a charity when our work inspires and benefits many people,” said Prof. Asep.
In the discussion session, Prof. Imam, revealed the importance of the role of librarians in serving students in the process of writing scientific works, including teaching the use of research support tools such as Mendeley and Zotero.
“Libraries need to select staff who are ready to develop their abilities in writing journals. Relevant topics will be adjusted to the needs of each field,” he added.
This training provides an interactive Q&A space, where participants can discuss challenges in writing and ways to overcome these obstacles. UB librarians are expected to be able to apply this knowledge in their daily activities, both in helping students and in compiling their own scientific papers.
This workshop is a concrete step by UB Library in supporting the improvement of human resource quality, in line with its vision to create librarians who are competitive and able to contribute academically. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
