Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) held training on Google Colab and AWS Educate for Practicum and Learning on Thursday (17/9/2020).
This training is carried out online through zoom application and is attended by all FILKOM lecturers. There are two main materials presented at the training. First, about the use of Google Colab for practicum and learning delivered by one of the FILKOM lecturers, Yuita Arum Sari, S.Kom., M.Kom.
Second, about using AWS Educate for practicum and learning delivered by Furin Ongko from AWS Educate Indonesia and Ari Sujarwo as AWS Educate Ambassador from UII Yogyakarta.
In his remarks, the Head of the Department of Informatics Engineering (Kajur TIF), Achmad Basuki, S.T., MMG, Ph.D. or who is familiarly called Abas conveyed that this training was deliberately given before the odd semester lecturing starts on academic year 2020/2021. This is done to improve the ability of lecturers in utilizing online learning support platforms and lecturing.
“One thing reminded is that every student has the same right to access the facilities provided by FILKOM. The hope is by the existing platform, students and lecturers can always interact even though they are online, “said Abas.
In the first session about using Google Colab, Yuita introduced the platform and demonstrated on how to use it in learning and practicum. Yuita explained that Google Colab makes online lecturing is easier on courses that require coding practicum. Some of the advantages of Google Colab are that it does not require an installation process, there is a package library that is embedded in it, is integrated with Google Classroom to facilitate assessment of student assignments and supports coding collaboration.
Meanwhile, the second session material on the introduction of Amazon and AWS Educate was delivered by Furin Ongko from AWS Educate Indonesia. Then proceed with the technical information on the implementation of AWS Educate in Informatics, UII Yogyakarta by Ari Sujarwo as AWS Educate Ambassador.
“At its inception in 1995 or 1996, Amazon only sold books online and had no publishing yet. What was interesting and made Amazon famous at that time was the book tracking service which is ordered online. Because more sales were needed, then more IT support was needed, so Amazon created its own IT team. The IT team was then released to the public in 2006 as Amazon Web Service, “said Furin explaining the history of AWS.
Now AWS services are trusted and utilized by millions of users in 190 countries. The advantages of AWS Educate can be used by the world of education for free without conditions, either by students or teachers. AWS Educate already supports basic services ranging from servers, storage, RDS to databases. [dna/ Humas UB/ Trans. Iir]
