Brawijaya University (UB) Library continues to strengthen its commitment in facilitating the development of science by holding the training “Go Scopus Series Batch 3: Using the AI Platform to Search References from Scopus.” This event was specifically held for UB Doctoral Program students and took place in Meeting Room 1, UB Library Building, 1st Floor, Tuesday (24/10/2023).
In this training, the participants were guided by two expert presenters, namely Ir. Hery Prayitno and Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si, who presented material that was innovative and relevant to the demands of the times.
In Batch 3 of the Go Scopus training series, UB Doctoral Program students had the opportunity to understand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology in the process of searching for references from Scopus. One of the main focuses of this training is the introduction and use of various AI platforms that can support their research.
The material taught in the training includes installation and use of EduVPNUB: Participants learn how to use EduVPNUB so that they can access UB Library E-Resouces collection even though they are outside UB network, for example at home or boarding house, and use Publish or Perish: Publish or Perish (PoP) is a free application that can be used to harvest bibliographic metadata (not full text PDF) of scientific works in all fields of science. This application is designed to assist individuals in finding and analyzing the sources of information they need. Moreover, this application can also help select articles in online databases according to the quality of the article. In the Publish or Perish (PoP) application, we can access reference sources from scientific work databases such as Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, Semantic Scholar, PubMed, Open Alex and Crossref.
Perplexity: Perplexity AI is a search engine on the internet that is operated like a chatbot based on artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In other words, users can search for information on various topics just by chatting with this technology. Later, Perplexity AI will provide answers to its users according to the instructions given.
Simply, Perplexity AI is a technology similar to ChatGPT. In fact, its “smartness” is considered the same as ChatGPT since it can answer follow-up questions to the first question, where the two questions are related to each other.
In addition to the material above, there were several other AI courses taught by the two presenters, the participants seemed enthusiastic about listening to all the material. This can be seen from their enthusiasm when asking Hery and Widhi questions.
The presence of Ir. Hery Prayitno and Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si, as presenters, strengthened this training with in-depth insight and experience in using AI technology in academic research.
“Using AI technology in research is the key to optimizing reference searches from Scopus. “Through this training, UB Doctoral Program students can hone their skills in using these tools to support their research,” said Ir. Hery Prayitno.
Pitoyo Widhi Atmoko, S.Si., M.Si, hopes that the training participants will feel the great benefits of this AI technology, so that they can carry out their research process more efficiently and productively.”
“Go Scopus Series Batch 3” training is clear evidence of UB Library’s efforts in supporting the academic development of Doctoral Program students.
UB Library believes that this increase in competency will contribute to the development of science that is more advanced and relevant to the demands of the times. (*/OKY/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
