The Universitas Brawijaya (UB) Library held an academic literacy training by presenting an activity entitled “NVivo Basic Training: Optimizing e-Resources for Writing Scientific Articles”, in Meeting Room 1, UB Library Building, 1st Floor, and attended by dozens of participants, consisting of Masters and Doctoral students, and lecturers from various faculties in UB.
In accordance with the instructions of the Head of UB Library, Prof. Dr. Iwan Permadi, S.H., M.Hum., this training not only focuses on technical aspects, but also emphasizes the importance of utilizing e-Resources subscribed to by UB Library, such as ProQuest, ScienceDirect, JSTOR, SpringerLink, and CNKI. Secondary data from e-journals and e-books can be used as supporting sources in compiling theoretical frameworks and analysis in NVivo-based research.
This training presented speaker, Ir. Heri Prayitno, a UB Library staff who actively provides digital literacy training and research support. In his material, Heri introduced NVivo software, a qualitative data processing application that is widely used in social, educational, communication, and humanities research.
Participants were guided starting from the introduction of the NVivo interface, data collection techniques, to the coding process and thematic analysis. The material was delivered interactively with direct practice sessions, so that participants not only understand the theory, but can also directly apply it in the context of their respective research.
This training is also part of UB Library’s ongoing strategy in optimizing access and use of electronic resources that are subscribed to at a very high value. With this training, it is hoped that students and lecturers will be more confident and skilled in compiling scientific articles that are worthy of being published in national and international journals.
The activity took place in a full of enthusiasm atmosphere. The participants actively discussed and consulted directly with the resource person during the practice session. UB Library Team was also present to accompany and provide technical assistance to the participants.
This training is one of the real forms of UB Library’s contribution in supporting the strengthening of the academic capacity of the university community, especially in facing the demands of increasingly complex and technology-based scientific publications. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
