Ministry of Agriculture is trying to reach self-sufficiency in rice, corn and soybean (Padi, jagung dan kedelai/PAJALE) and have been mobilized some strategic programs in related with the self-sufficiency achievement. An activity to be done simultaneously across Indonesia is Upaya Khusus (UPSUS) of PAJALE self-sufficiency achievement. In order to support UPSUS PAJALE program then Faculty of Agriculture University of Brawijaya initiated collaboration with Ministry of Agriculture.
Through the UPSUS program, three prioritized commodities including rice, corn and soybean, Joko Widodo governance is very determined to succeed food sovereignty in 2017. In UPSUS PAJALE activity, the entire strategic and efforts are executed to extend planting area and productivity in food producer central regions. Target achievement operations in the field is truly all-in executed in order to succeed the program including funding provision, exertion, repairing damaged irrigation network, fertilizer aid, appropriate excellent product provision (type/variety, number, place, time, quality, price), tractor aid and other agriculture machineries that supporting preparation, harvest and post harvest including marketing assurance.
UPSUS program is executed simultaneously in several provinces in Indonesia, including North Sumatera, South Sulawesi, Jambi, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, Central Java and East Java. Of which on Thursday (17/Mar/2016) executed a rice harvest of biological agents technology examination, a collaboration between Faculty of Agriculture University of Brawijaya and Department of Agriculture, Plantation and Forestry in Gresik Regency, Petiyintunggal Village, Dukun Subdistrict, Gresik Regency.
In the report, Department Head of Agriculture, Plantation and Forestry of Gresik Regency, Ir. Agus Djoko Walujo, delivered-how the result of technology assessment on local biological agents that utilized-optimally is able to save rice up to produce 7 up to 8 tons dried paddy. By the existence of biological agents, various pests and diseases could be controlled. Productivity target in 2015 reaches 6.58 tons, this year becomes 6.71 tons. In the similar occasion, handed over by government assistance within the framework of rehabilitation activity of agricultural irrigation network from State Budget year of 2016 for 20 Farmers Joint Group. “Gresik was initially has a 28 thousand hectare areas then grows to become 57.8 thousand and targeted to reach 67 thousand hectares that able to produce around 427 thousand tons dried paddy. With yield averagely 60 percent, then we have rice stock of 255 thousand tons. Gresik also well known as industrial area, many times in national level win Investment Award,” the Regent Dr. Ir. H. Sambari Halim Radianto, ST, M.Si welcomed while chanced to attend the harvest event.
Dean of Faculty of Agriculture University of Brawijaya Dr. Ir. Nuhfil Hanani AR., MS explained that UPSUS for East Java’s regency area was entrusted to Faculty of Agriculture University of Brawijaya, and recently we are trying to introduce local based technology. Coaching which also run is biological agent production in very affordable price. This year is planned a collaboration with Department of Agriculture Gresik for salak mentoring deliverance and horticulture development in the future.
