The COVID-19 pandemic has not had a significant impact on the agricultural sector. The agricultural sector is still needed, especially for consumption. That was said by UB Food Security Expert, Dr. Sujarwo, S.P., M.P., In a Casual Talk with Reporters or (Bonsai), Tuesday (30/3/2021).
“The agricultural sector is not really affected by the pandemic. Because people still consume rice .The transformation only shifts from industry to households. So those who usually eat in restaurants, now eat at home, “he said.
Sujarwo explained that the abundance of natural resources owned by Indonesia has made food availability abundant.
“We have never had a surplus in agriculture,” said the Vice Dean I of FP.
Ironically, behind the need for the agricultural sector in life, there are many young people who are not interested in working in agriculture.
“The agricultural sector in Indonesia is sold at a low price, even though it is diamonds. On the other hand, the agricultural sector is needed but not many are interested in agriculture, “he said.
Agriculture is actually still a sector that has the potential to generate profits but it must be managed properly and professionally, so the results will also be very profitable.
Therefore, what can be done is to continue educating the younger generation about the potential of the agricultural sector to be managed properly, responsive to changes in technology and markets.
If these two aspects are considered in agricultural production, agriculture will advance and have the potential to dynamize the macro economy and what is expected is a good linkage of consumption, production, investment and government revenue through the agricultural sector.
“If this linkage is well developed, our macro growth will be even stronger because it relies on the endowment factor of this nation,” said Sujarwo. (OKY / Humas UB/ Trans. Iir)
