The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya held an orientation for the education and student life of the Master of Animal Science and Doctor of Animal Science students on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at the Postgraduate Auditorium of the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya.
The theme of the orientation was “The Role of Postgraduate Education in Strengthening Human Resources in the Livestock Sector in the Era of Digitalization.” This theme was chosen as a concrete effort to emphasize the importance of human resource development that also advances digital technology, particularly in the livestock sector.
The event was attended by 44 new Master’s students and 20 new Doctoral students in Animal Science at the Faculty of Animal Science, Universitas Brawijaya (UB). The orientation, which took place at the Postgraduate Auditorium of the Faculty of Animal Science, UB, was themed “The Role of Postgraduate Education in Strengthening Human Resources in the Livestock Sector in the Era of Digitalization.”
This theme was selected in response to the critical importance of developing human resources capable of adapting to and advancing digital technology in the livestock sector. “Strengthening human resources in the digital era is crucial, especially in facing the challenges in the continuously evolving livestock sector,” said Prof. Osfar Sjofjan, the Chair of the Orientation Committee.
This year’s orientation was attended by 44 new Master’s students and 20 new Doctoral students in Animal Science. These students consist of participants from the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year and the odd semester of 2024/2025, including those in the fast-track and regular Master’s programs, as well as the regular, PMDSU, and PPDU Doctoral programs. Prof. Osfar added, “This year, a total of 64 new students from various regions in Indonesia and different institutions are participating in the orientation.”
In his speech, the Dean of the Faculty of Animal Science, UB, Prof. Halim Natsir, highlighted the excellence of the postgraduate programs at the Faculty of Animal Science, UB, both nationally and internationally. He also emphasized the importance of developing artificial intelligence (AI) to strengthen food security. “Graduates of the Faculty of Animal Science play a strategic role in ensuring food security in Indonesia,” said Prof. Halim.
In addition to introducing the management team and faculty members, new students also received various important materials during the orientation. The Vice Dean I provided information about the educational process and curriculum applicable to the postgraduate programs. Another session was led by the Head of the International Relations Office, Prof. Veronica Margareta Ani, who explained the international programs at the Faculty of Animal Science, including the offer of a double degree Master’s program with Shinsu University, Japan. At the end of the session, Khoiron Nisaa, S.Kom, as the head of the finance and resources sub-division, provided insights into the financial process, including tuition fees (UKT) and procedures for applying for financial assistance.
This event is expected to prepare new students to undertake their studies effectively and graduate on time, as well as to be ready to face global challenges in the livestock sector through the mastery of digital technology. (dfh)
