KPU RI Encourages Quality Democracy Through Guest Lectures

The Faculty of Law, Universitas Brawijaya (FH UB) held a guest lecture themed “Utilization of Information Technology to Improve the Implementation of the 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections that are Democratic and Quality”. This event took place in the Auditorium on the 6th floor of A Building, Faculty of Law on (6/9/24).

This guest lecture presented a Member of the General Election Commission (KPU) of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2022–2027 period, Mrs. Betty Epsilon Idroos, as the main speaker.

The event was opened with remarks by the Vice Rector for Planning, Cooperation, and Internationalization of Universitas Brawijaya, Andi Kurniawan S.Pi., M.Eng. D.Sc.

In his remarks, he expressed his appreciation for the presence of the Indonesian KPU and the importance of this discussion for students and academics.

“We strongly support all forms of collaboration between universities and state institutions such as the KPU. The use of technology to support the implementation of democratic regional elections is a very relevant topic for all of us, especially in this digital era,” said Andi.

This activity also collaborated with the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) Universitas Brawijaya, with Tri Hendra Wahyudi, S.IP., M.IP., from FISIP UB acting as moderator. He guided the discussion which was followed enthusiastically by the participants. The discussion was dynamic, discussing various challenges faced in adopting technology at every stage of the election process.

In her material, Mrs. Betty emphasized the importance of implementing information technology in maintaining transparency and accountability of the election process, especially in the upcoming 2024 Simultaneous Regional Elections.

“The use of information technology not only increases efficiency and accuracy in organizing elections, but also strengthens the legitimacy of election results through a more transparent and accountable system,” said Betty Epsilon Idroos.

According to her, the KPU continues to innovate to minimize the potential for fraud and increase public trust in the democratic process in Indonesia.

“In every application of technology, security risks are always our main concern. Therefore, the KPU has prepared various layers of protection, including cooperation with related agencies to ensure the security of information systems during the regional election,” explained Betty Epsilon Idroos.

This guest lecture event is expected to open participants’ insights regarding the strategic role of technology in supporting a healthy and quality democratic process, as well as motivate the younger generation to be actively involved in making the 2024 Election a success.
