Malang, November 30, 2024 – The Regional Working Meeting (Muskerwil) of the Indonesian Statistics Higher Education Forum (FORSTAT) Region VI was successfully held at the Department of Statistics, FMIPA Universitas Brawijaya (UB). This event was attended by the chairman of FORSTAT, Dr. Bagus Sartono, S.Si., M.Si. (IPB University) and also representatives of the members of the Statistics Higher Education Forum (FORSTAT) in 9 institutions in East Java, including the Statistics Department of FSAD ITS, the Business Statistics Department of FV ITS, Airlangga University, Universitas Brawijaya, Nahdlatul Ulama Sunan Giri University, Jember University, PGRI Adi Buana University Surabaya, KH A Wahab Hasbullah University, and UIN Maulana Malik Ibrahim Malang.
This Regional Working Meeting is an important event for the development of statistics education in Indonesia, especially in East Java. This event aims to strengthen relations between universities and discuss various issues related to the development of statistics education at the national and regional levels, as well as discussing the FORSTAT work plan in East Java for the 2024-2026 period. The series of events began with a welcoming speech by the Deputy Chairperson of FORSTAT Region VI East Java, namely Dr. Suci Astutik, S.Si. M.Si. from Universitas Brawijaya. Furthermore, there was also a speech from the chairman of FORSTAT Indonesia. In her remarks, she emphasized the importance of collaboration between higher education institutions to improve the quality of teaching and research in the field of statistics. The opening speech was then given by the Head of the Statistics Department of Universitas Brawijaya, Rahma Fitriani, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D.
The activity was held at the Mipa Center Building, Universitas Brawijaya. The first session of this activity was the delivery of the FORSTAT work program for the 2024-2026 period by the head of FORSTAT Indonesia, Dr. Bagus Sartono, S.Si., M.Si. He said that the FORSTAT work program is expected to emphasize the keyword “collaboration” in each of its activities with a focus on education that has a long-term impact. Lecturers are asked to improve their competence to adapt to next-generation technology. In addition, the work program is expected to have a large and broad impact, even at the national level. The branding of the activity needs to be strengthened so that FORSTAT’s competence in data analytics and data science is increasingly widely known by students.
The second session is a parallel discussion session divided into four discussion areas, namely education and student affairs, research and community service, scientific journal management, and cooperation. This discussion discusses the strategy and work program plan that will be held in each area during the 2024-2026 period in order to achieve the VISION and MISSION of FORSTAT Indonesia. This discussion is expected to produce strategic agreements to improve the quality of education in the field of statistics in Indonesia, especially in Region VI of East Java.
The FORSTAT Region VI Muskerwil at Universitas Brawijaya is real evidence of a joint commitment to develop higher education in statistics that is relevant to the needs of the times. The hope of this event is to create stronger synergy between universities in Region VI in an effort to produce quality statistics professionals who are ready to face global challenges.
