The opening of the event was symbolized by the striking of a gong and the pinning of attributes to a representative participant by the Dean, Prof. M. Halim Natsir. This act also symbolized the acceptance of new students as part of the academic community of Fapet UB. He expressed his hope that, as the younger generation, they would remain committed to advancing Indonesia’s livestock industry, aligning with the symbol of the Maximus bird, which represents unity and full commitment.
Unlike previous years, this PKKMB saw participants witnessing the signing of a collaboration agreement between Fapet UB, PT. Charoen Pokphand Indonesia (CPI), and PT. Telanusa. Fapet UB and CPI agreed to continue their third-period farming collaboration by initiating a pullet in on Monday, August 19, 2024. Since December 2020, CPI has donated the construction of a modern closed house teaching farm for laying hens to Fapet, located at the Sumber Sekar field laboratory in Dau, Malang Regency.
Halim mentioned that the egg production results from the closed house during the second period were very impressive. The farm achieved high performance, such as an extended peak production period, hen day production (HDP) reaching the highest standard, egg mass exceeding industry standards, and feed conversion in line with standards.
“Due to these achievements, the closed house teaching farm at Fapet UB has become a reference for major poultry farmers seeking comparative studies,” Halim remarked, greeted by enthusiastic applause from the participants.
“We also named these chickens ‘Hyberkah.’ The ‘Hy’ comes from the Hy-Line breed of laying hens used in this teaching farm, and ‘berkah’ means blessing, signifying the added goodness,” Halim added.
Meanwhile, the collaboration with PT. Telanusa involves activities related to education, research, and community service. The first activity will be a maritime training course to be held in September 2024, free of charge and with certification. This training aims to enhance competencies and provide students with opportunities to work in the livestock sector related to animal transportation, such as the export and import of livestock.
“My dear children, the future leaders of our nation, we hope that this collaboration agreement will help sharpen your soft skills, equipping you to face competition in the livestock sector, both nationally and internationally,” Halim concluded. (dta)
