MMD Holds Socialization and Training on Making High-Nutrient Animal Feed in Paiton

Group 45 Students Build Villages Universitas Brawijaya (MMD-UB) held a Socialization and Training activity on Making High-Nutrition Animal Feed which was attended by 16 farmers from Sumberanyar Village, Paiton District, Probolinggo Regency, on (13/7/2024). The activity aims to introduce innovations in animal feed management using simple additional ingredients that can provide additional nutrition for livestock, especially for fattening purposes.

The implementation of the activity began with the presentation of the material followed by a practical session, and a question and answer session. In the presentation, the material presented includes types of livestock feed management for silage and fermentation, the objectives and benefits of the innovations introduced, the materials used, the benefits of the materials used for the condition of livestock, good and correct livestock feed management methods related to the storage and sanitation process of feed and the dosage of each additional material used.

In the practical session, there were five representatives from 16 farmers who came forward to make feed directly. The feed made was 50 kg using ingredients such as 7 bunches of elephant grass and 3 bunches of corn stalks that had been chopped with a chopping machine, 10 kg of bran, 4 kg of coarse salt and 1 liter of molasses or sugar cane drops.

In the manufacturing process, 10 kg of bran was mixed with 1 liter of molasses in a bucket and then stirred evenly.

After mixing, the mixture of bran and molasses was sprinkled evenly and thoroughly on the surface of the elephant grass and corn stalks that had been chopped and after that 4 kg of coarse salt was sprinkled evenly on the elephant grass and corn stalks. In the middle of the practical session, a question and answer session was also held between students and farmers regarding the methods used and also at the end of the event as much as 50 kg of animal feed from the results of the practice was distributed to 16 farmers who could be given directly to livestock.

One of the cattle farmers in Sumberanyar Village, Basid gave his impression after the event was over.

“This activity is expected to be a form of introduction of new innovations for farmers in managing animal feed which has so far still used simple methods and later this method can continue to be practiced by farmers to improve the condition of livestock better,” he said.

The implementation of this work program is a form of contribution from group 45 to develop livestock potential and help find solutions to problems faced by farmers in getting access to high-nutrient feed.

The materials used are materials that are easily obtained at low cost and this method is efficient in terms of time and energy. This work program is also a form of implementation of SDGs 8, namely decent work and economic growth.

“I hope that the innovation that I introduced can continue to be practiced by farmers in Sumberanyar Village and can help improve the quality of livestock, not only beneficial for farmers but also beneficial for me in adding experience, knowledge and urgency in community service,” said the Person in Charge of the Activity Implementation Neisha.

In addition to the socialization of making high-nutrient animal feed, the 45 MMD UB group also has several other work programs such as socialization of English learning to junior high school students, socialization of making soap from used cooking oil and making skipjack tuna chili sauce, mentoring for UMKM branding and socialization, ethics education to elementary school children, socialization of HIV / AIDS to high school students in the village, training in making posters using canva-based applications, socialization of the use of rice washing water as liquid organic fertilizer to residents of Sumberanyar Village, cleaning up garbage in Sumberanyar Village river and visual education through infographics.
