The Student Community Service Program (MMD) 2024 organized by Brawijaya University involved 1,000 students from various faculties and took place from July 1 to August 1, 2024.
This activity aims to provide sustainable solutions to problems in villages and contribute to the development of science and technology into products beneficial to the community.
All students participating in this activity were officially dispatched on July 1, 2024, to carry out the MMD program in several areas in East Java.
Sumberkerang Village, located in Gending District, Probolinggo Regency, was chosen as the community service location for Group 43.
Led by Jagad Satria Aly (TE ’22) and comprising 13 members, two of whom are from FT UB; Salsabilla Risfa Shabrina (Water Resources Engineering ’22) and Zainul Hadi Chandra (Water Resources Engineering ’22).
Upon arriving in Sumberkerang Village, the team immediately coordinated with the Field Supervisor (DPL), Azna Abrory Wardana, S.H., M.H., and village officials to initiate the various planned work programs.
“The work programs we are implementing are closely related to several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for community welfare and sustainable village development, encompassing sectors such as the economy, education, health, and village infrastructure,” explained Jagad.
These programs include economic empowerment through the digitalization of MSMEs, participation in supporting village health and welfare at Posyandu, and community outreach regarding existing issues.
The team also helped improve the quality of education by providing tutoring, updating administrative maps, and conducting training in Microsoft Office, artificial intelligence, Canva, and village monographs.
“In enhancing community welfare, we are assisting village MSMEs in adopting digital technology, which is expected to increase operational efficiency, expand market reach, and enhance MSME competitiveness,” Jagad explained.
Additionally, Jagad continued, there were socialization efforts for the community regarding taxation, biopore absorption holes, clean water sanitation, and zakat management.
In the field of education, the UB student group also helped improve students’ academic understanding and advance science and technology within the education sector.
“We conducted tutoring sessions by providing teaching modules to support the learning process, enhance digital literacy, and help students reach their potential,” he said.
Moreover, the team contributed to the village government by updating administrative maps and village monographs to ensure the availability of up-to-date information, supporting development planning, and facilitating village administration.
Through the MMD-UB program, we strive to create a significant positive impact and build synergy for the development of Sumberkerang Village in collaboration with the community and village government.
“With the work programs we have designed, we hope to provide sustainable solutions for economic, educational, health, and infrastructure problems in the village and transform Sumberkerang Village into a more active and independent village,” concluded Jagad. (mic)
