Minister of Public Work and Public Housing Inaugurates Auditorium and Entrepreneurship Building

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Ir. H. Mochamad Basuki Hadimoeljono, M.Sc., Ph.D. took the time to visit Brawijaya University (UB) to inaugurate the integrated auditorium and entrepreneurship building on Sunday (18/02). The visit is part of the collaboration between the government and State Owned Enterprises (BUMN) in contributing to the progress of educational facilities on UB campus. Muhammad Reva, Head of the Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), East Java, said that Brawijaya auditorium building had been built from October 2021 to April 2023 with an investment of 150 billion.

According to him, the auditorium building can be used as a supporting facility for campus activities both academic and non-academic. “With a capacity of 800 people, the auditorium is equipped with telescopic chairs, two-story indoor stands, a large theater screen, a stage with spotlight equipment and a sound system, plus acoustic panels so that it can dampen sound,” he said.

The Brawijaya auditorium building has 6 floors with a building area of 9,579 m2. It draws on the local wisdom of Majapahit architecture, adapting the environmental design on campus, so that the appearance of the building itself is dominated by brick ornaments with a modern touch in the interior on each floor. Meanwhile, the construction of the integrated entrepreneurship building was carried out on 6 floors covering an area of 4,194 m2 on fifth to tenth floor, so the total area of the building was 7,294 m2.

This activity was attended by several ranks of leadership starting from the Rector, Vice Rector for Cooperation and Internationalization Planning, Secretary General of the Public Works and Public Housing Ministry, Secretary of the Directorate General, Main Director of PT Adhi Karya along with the Head of BPPW East Java. In his speech, Basuki Hadimoeljono hoped that this building could be used in accordance with the needs of the tridharma of higher education and could provide benefits to the entire UB academic community. This also becomes a bond with the campus, considering that many UB alumni are already part of the Public Works and Public Housing.

UB Rector, Prof. Widodo, S.Si., M.Sc., Ph.D. Med.Sc, said that UB would make the best use of it. The auditorium and entrepreneurship building will not only be used as a place for student lectures, but will also be used as an entrepreneurship facility and laboratory for international scale research. “Thank you to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing and his staff for their kindness so that this building becomes one of the cornerstones of Brawijaya University and a motivation for all of us to improve the educational process for the young generation in the future,” he added.
