Minister of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) of the Republic of Indonesia, Meutya Hafid, gave her appreciation to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) while visiting the Plenary Session of the Board of Trustees (MWA), Sunday (5/1/2025).
“We are proud of the existence of the AI Center at UB, as the first campus in Indonesia. Synergy between the government and universities is very important to support the Golden Indonesia,” said Meutya.
The Minister of Communication and Digital hopes that UB AI Center can produce extraordinary innovations, such as food security applications, and increase Indonesia’s digital talent.
She also said that synergy between the government and universities is important to support the Golden Indonesia in the future.
“The Ministry of Communication and Digital is proud, promotes and always supports. Because we believe that cooperation between the government and universities will be important in preparing for the golden Indonesia with Artificial Intelligence,” she said.
Meutya Hafid hopes and advises that the advanced technologies in the AI Center can provide extraordinary output in the form of applications needed by the community, especially in the field of food security.
UB Chancellor, Prof. Widodo said that the inauguration of the Artificial Intelligence Center (AI Center) of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) was a historic moment. UB Chancellor, Prof. Widodo, expressed his gratitude to the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, for her support.
“We are happy because UB is supported to increase the number of Indonesian digital talents. This will open up a lot of cooperation with companies related to AI,” said Prof. Widodo.
Dean of Filkom UB, Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, said that for 5 years, Kominfo (Communication and Information) has collaborated with Filkom to organize school digital talents.
According to the Dean of Filkom UB, Wayan Firdaus Mahmudy, this collaboration has produced various community service programs, such as Students Build Villages (KKN) which focuses on digital literacy for teachers, village officials, and the community.
“This program aims to increase digital awareness of village communities. We hope that UB AI Center can increase its impact and create a digital generation that is ready to compete,” said Wayan.
UB AI Center is a pioneer in the development of artificial intelligence and data science research ecosystems in Indonesia. This facility is located in UB Rectorate Building and is equipped with sophisticated technology such as the NVIDIA DGX A100 Supercomputer to support research and training. Meutya Hafid hopes that UB AI Center can create digital talents who are ready to compete in the technological era and support food self-sufficiency.
