The Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Brawijaya, through the “Community Service through Integrated Student KKN” program, conducted a corned beef making workshop in Pacalan Village, Plaosan District, Magetan Regency. Pacalan Village has significant potential in local meat production, but the added value of these products has not been optimized. Much of the meat is sold raw at low prices. This workshop aims to increase the added value and income of the village community through the diversification of processed meat products.
The workshop was attended by 20 participants from the Pacalan Village PKK and lasted for one day. Activities included pre-tests and post-tests to measure understanding, material delivery sessions, discussions, and hands-on practice in making corned beef. The material was presented by experts in their fields, namely Dr. Aris Sri Widati, Dr. Khothibul Umam Al Awwaly, Dr. Manik Eirry Sawitri, and Dr. Premy Puspitawati Rahayu, along with master’s students who assisted in the practice sessions. Students from KKN Group 20 also actively participated in the implementation of the event.
The Head of Pacalan Village, Mr. Agus Suharto, M.T., along with village officials, also attended to support the workshop. Participants followed the training with great enthusiasm, actively asking questions and engaging in in-depth discussions about raw materials, production techniques, and food safety aspects. Additionally, participants were assigned to practice making corned beef at home and submit photo documentation of their products to receive feedback from the experts.
The output of this activity is expected to enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in producing quality corned beef. By gaining new expertise, participants are anticipated to contribute significantly to the village’s economic growth by utilizing local meat as the main ingredient. “This training not only empowers individuals in the food sector but also plays an active role in sustainable economic development in Pacalan Village,” said one of the speakers.
