Improving the Quality of Local Farmers through Livestock Management Training by KKNT in Besowo Village

Malang, August 1, 2024 – The Doktor Mengabdi (Doctoral Community Service) Team of Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Besowo Village, Kepung Subdistrict, Kediri Regency, successfully conducted a livestock management workshop for local farmers as part of their 2024 work program. This initiative aimed to educate local farmers on sheep farming management, with the goal of improving farming systems in Besowo Village. The activity was attended by students and faculty members from various faculties, who provided education and services to the community.

This program reflects UB’s commitment to making a tangible contribution to society, particularly in the fields of agriculture and livestock farming. Besowo Village was chosen as it still requires improvements in livestock management quality. The workshop is part of an effort to enhance the village’s potential as a better sheep farming center.

The workshop took place in the third week and was led by the KKN DM (Community Service) Team, chaired by Dr. Achadiah Rachmawati, S.Pt., M.Si. It was attended by the “Rojo Mulyo” livestock group and residents from various hamlets in Besowo Village, such as Kenteng Barat, Kenteng Timur, Krajan, and others. Over three hours, the farmers received training on livestock management, disease prevention, and solutions for dealing with sheep diseases. The event concluded with a group photo and a communal meal.

“I think this is a very positive activity, and we have learned how to better care for our sheep. We hope activities like this can be held annually and cover even more areas,” said Agus, a member of the livestock group.

Dr. Achadiah expressed her appreciation for the community’s participation. “We hope this collaboration can continue in the future, as this activity is highly relevant to the needs of Besowo Village’s farming groups,” she said. At the end of the program, the Doktor Mengabdi Team provided assistance in the form of sheep farming tools, grass choppers, silage plastic, Indigofera seeds, and other resources to support more effective livestock activities.

With the conclusion of this community service activity, UB hopes to continue similar programs in the future and inspire more institutions to actively participate in efforts to improve community welfare.tim/mtn
