Malang Enviro Action FTP Realizes  Madyopuro as an Eco-Friendly Village

Environmental Engineering students of the Faculty of Agricultural Technology (FTP) Universitas Brawijaya (UB) held an annual work program of excellence from the Department of Social and Community Affairs called Malang Enviro Action (MEA).

Malang Enviro Action (MEA) is one of the annual work programs of the Department of Social and Community Affairs in the Family of Environmental Engineering Students of Universitas Brawijaya.

This program focuses on community service by utilizing innovative technology in the fields of greening and waste management to create sustainable solutions that have a direct impact on the community.

MEA is designed as a forum for collaboration between students and residents, integrating the concept of sustainability through education, training, and implementation of environmentally friendly technology.

This program aims to empower the community while encouraging awareness of the importance of environmental conservation through an inclusive approach.

Malang Enviro Action (MEA) has completed two years of its work in RW 03, Madyopuro Village, Kedungkandang District, Malang City, with a series of proud achievements.

The program, which was initiated as a real manifestation of collaboration between students and the community, has succeeded in transforming RW 03 into a greener, more productive, and environmentally friendly village through various inspiring actions.

The first year of MEA began with the Kulonuwun action. The team conducted a village visit to map the problems faced by residents. Continued with the socialization of environmentally friendly technological innovations, MEA introduced the concept of organic waste processing and community-based greening. The Gugur Gunung action initiated the synergy between the MEA team and residents with a joint environmental cleanup activity.

In the Waste Bank program, waste processing technology such as making Takakura fertilizer and vertical gardens were introduced, providing concrete solutions for managing household waste.

MEA also collaborated with TSA Brawijaya in the Kalpawreksa program to expand greening through tabulampot plants, verticulture, and vertical gardens.

Entering its second year, MEA conducted socialization to 14 environmental cadres from each RT trained to become agents of change in the community.

In the organic waste processing action, the team conducted an evaluation and development of the Takakura technology that had been implemented. In fact, MEA collaborated with Malang Mushroom Cultivation to provide a mini course on the use of household waste in mushroom cultivation. Not to be missed, the second year of greening action recorded a historic moment with the construction of a greenhouse as a center for residents’ planting activities.

The peak of the MEA activity was marked by the Farewell event, a warm moment where the committee and residents gathered to eat together, share stories, and reminisce about the two-year journey that had been passed. Although the MEA program has officially ended, the committee’s concern for the sustainability of technology is maintained through routine control programs. The environmental cadres that were formed also continue to actively maintain the technology that has been brought.

The results of this program are clearly visible. The greenhouse is now the center of planting activities for residents, producing plants such as tomatoes that can be enjoyed together. The Takakura fertilizer that was introduced has become an important element in supporting plant growth in the greenhouse. Due to together hard work, RW 03 won second place in the Posyandu competition at the Malang City level.

The Head of RW 03, Madyopuro Village, expressed his appreciation for the success of this program. “With the series of programs from MEA, we feel very helped in increasing public awareness of waste management and the importance of protecting the environment. The education provided by MEA students from Universitas Brawijaya not only teaches us how to process waste but also utilize the results for daily needs. We hope that this collaboration can continue and provide long-term benefits for the RW 03 community,” he said.

Malang Enviro Action has proven that collaboration between students and the community can bring about significant change. With a strong vision and real action, MEA leaves a positive footprint that will continue to inspire the RW 03 community to protect their environment sustainably.

The head of the MEA committee, Wisnu, admitted that he was very proud of all the elements that had played an active role in making the Malang Enviro Action series of events a success, especially in the waste management program.

“One of the innovations that we have implemented is waste management by implementing mushroom cultivation that utilizes organic waste processed using the takakura method as a mushroom planting medium. This program is expected to be a real solution for the community of RW 03, Madyopuro Village by processing organic waste and inorganic into more environmentally friendly and economically valuable products. Furthermore, there is greenhouse technology in an effort to realize a green environment in RW 03 Madyopuro,” said Wisnu.

He added that active community participation in this program is proof that concern for the environment can start from small steps taken together.

“I am very happy to see the enthusiasm of the community in taking advantage of this opportunity to learn and contribute to maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability,” he said. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
