Student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine Universitas Brawijaya (FKH UB) Putri Dwi Lestari socialized the dangers of electrified mouse traps and provided solutions on how to control rats for residents of Pucak Wangi Village, Babat District, Lamongan Regency, Sunday (15/8/2021).
The activities which were summarized in the Thematic Work Lecture (KKN) were attended by 20 people who work as farmers as well as breeders.
Putri explained that the electrified mouse trap or commonly known as ‘rat stun’ is very dangerous because it can kill rats and endanger farmer’s live.
“Many cases have been reported so far, the use of rat stun is also prohibited in many regions. So, rat stun must be abandoned immediately since it is very dangerous, “ Putri.
In addition to the restriction on the use of rats electrified, Putri also provides a safe control solution for farmers and the environment.
“Rat control can be done by mass gropyokan, nest fumigation and nest sanitation. In addition to using this method, you can also use natural ingredients such as noni, garlic, papaya, cloves, soursop leaves, bay leaves and durian skin. The natural ingredients for the rat repellent are simply cut into small pieces and then placed in the rat’s nest. The material has an aroma so it can repel rats from the fields,” Putri added.
Through this activity, Putri hopes that the people of Pucakwangi village will understand more about the harm of electrified rat traps and understand how to control rats safely.
“In addition, this activity can also be used by students as a means of socialization and interaction with the residents of Pucakwangi village,” said Putri. (PTR/Humas UB/ Trans. Iir).
