A number of students from Universitas Brawijaya (UB) who are members of the Village Empowerment Development Program (P3D) help the community of Tawangsari Village, Pujon through batik to create new livelihoods and create an environmentally cultured society.

The team leader, Herlin Sri Wahyuni explained that Tawangsari Village, Pujon was chosen as the location for community empowerment since it is one of the 3T villages (Outermost, Frontier, and Disadvantaged) which has many aspects of natural and human resource potential but is not yet optimal in utilizing this potential.

In this activity, the group of students who are also members of the Student Executive (EM UB), helps the people of Tawangsari Village through the assistance in batik production and marketing, branding batik products “Djojo De Sari” (Jaya Desa Tawangsari), making stamp batik, and batik waste management so it is not to pollute the environment as an effort to preserve the environment in realizing Tawangsari Village community with an environmental culture or implementing a zero waste lifestyle.

Herlin added that in July the team had started to coordinate online between the supervisor and the community of Tawangsari village regarding conventional marketing and digital marketing.

One of the residents of Tawangsari Village, Pujon Arwati (40 years old) said that batik training was a very good activity. Through batik training, they can increase the ability of the people of Tawangsari Village, especially for mothers who are members of batik community. Their batik making skills will be more improved because they are trained directly by the batik maker.

“In addition, we also get additional material in the form of marketing knowledge so that we can know how to sell batik both online such as social media and offline or directly in person,” said Arwati.
