UB Engineering Students Build Public Facilities in Tajinan

9135_20160209124959Students of the Engineering faculty, Universitas Brawijaya (FT-UB) hold community service activities in the event titled Student Work Camp (KKM) XXXVIII, 2016.
The location of the annual event this time centered on Gunungronggo village, Argomulyo hamlet, Tajinan subdistrict, Malang regency, 6-9 February 2016.

In an event that has been going on for 38 years, approximately 900 new students, 300 organizers companion, and dozens of local residents worked together to build public facilities.

As for public infrastructure development projects undertaken include the construction of a concrete road with a length of 60 meters and width of 3 meters, the installation of street lighting (PJU) at 16 points, and the procurement of 52 bins. A total of 20 bins provided, are donation from Dinas Cipta Karya Malang.

Not stoping there, the female freshmen are directed to conduct social activities for residents. Among them is giving groceries to needy people, teaching elementary school students, free Medicine treatment for the elderly, waste separation workshop, and vocational training for citizens.

“At the Engineering faculty, certainly, one of the main activity is to perform community service. Not quite enough to only do the process of learning and research course, one important component is community service, “said the Dean of FT-UB Dr. Ir. Pitojo Tri Juwono, MT at the participant’s departure ceremony Saturday, February 6, 2016, in the Field of UB’s rector office.

According to the dean, the community service activities, has embedded early for the new students for their character development. He said that students cannot be separated from the wider community that’s out there.

“Students Has to mingle, serve, and implement the knowledge gained for the benefit and welfare of the community,” said Dean.

Dean also confirmed that KKM XXXVIII is an activity that is officially and transparent. Dean also asked the organizers and participants ensure activities can be run well, safe, and successful.

Residents Very Happy With Service Performed by Students
Meanwhile, a resident of RT. 24 RW 04, Desa Gunungronggo, Mulyati, stating that the citizens are very enthusiastic and delighted with the community service given.

This is shown by the citizen’s willingness to cooperate providing support facilities such as shelters and tents for students who drive motorcycle during the activity.

“Our village has developed quite significantly with building facilities, but to continue road construction we’re still lack of funds. We are glad that this activity can be sustained, “added Mulyati when met at his residence.
