At the international event, the 12th Electrical Power, Electronics, Communications, Control, and Informatics Seminar (EECCIS), held by Universitas Brawijaya and Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) on (16/10/2024). Students of the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) on behalf of Fi Imanur Sifaunnufus Ms., S. Kom., succeeded in winning the Best Student Paper.
With the paper entitled, Stress Detection Using EEG Signals: A SVM Based Classification and Feature Selection Approach, she explained that the main theme of the project presented was stress detection using Electroencephalogram (EEG) signals. The main focus of this research is on the development of an SVM-based classification system to detect stress levels accurately through EEG signal analysis. This project covers the method of selecting the right features to improve model accuracy and make it more efficient in analyzing complex EEG data
Fi Imanur said that the main motivation for attending this international conference was to expand academic and professional networks and deepen understanding of the latest developments in stress detection research using EEG signals. The team’s preparation process before attending the conference involved several important stages. First, compiling and reviewing the contents of the research to ensure the quality and accuracy of the data, methods, and results obtained. Second, practicing compiling presentations effectively in order to convey the material clearly in a limited time. Also conducting a question and answer simulation to anticipate questions from participants or panelists, in order to provide comprehensive answers. The guidance process takes place through active discussions with the supervisor. Before the conference, the supervisor provided input on the presentation structure, clarity of the material, and effective delivery methods. During the conference, there was also the opportunity to interact with participants about the research.
“An advice for the younger siblings and colleagues at FILKOM, to continue to be enthusiastic in pursuing research and the projects being carried out. Similar conferences provide many opportunities to develop oneself, learn from experts, and gain new insights that can enrich knowledge. Don’t be hesitate to try new things and be dedicated to completing your research. Participating in conferences is also a valuable experience that can open up wider opportunities in academic and professional careers. Stay consistent, be open to input, and never stop learning,” said Fi Imanur.
As a supervisor, Dr.Eng. Fitra Abdurrachman Bachtiar, S.T., M.Eng., expressed his appreciation and full support for the achievements of Fi Imanur and Barlian Henryranu Prasetio, S.T., M.T., Ph.D., who won awards at EECCIS in 2024. Fitra hopes that this success can motivate other students to actively participate in scientific activities.
