KKN FP Students Invites the Community to Develop Organic Waste Potential

FP UB Real Work Lecture Program (KKN) students guided by Mr. Rizki Maulana Ishaq, SP., MP and Dr. Budi Waluyo, SP., MP (as DPL) on Thursday (11/7/2024) made an innovation by utilizing organic household and agricultural waste into Compost and Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) which has economic value in Podokoyo Village, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency. Making compost from household waste in this village not only helps reduce the problem of the volume of waste that has not been utilized, but also provides long-term benefits in improving the quality of agricultural land and supporting environmental conservation in the village.

The waste disposal flow of Podokoyo Village community is a problem that needs attention, considering that Podokoyo Village TPS has not been operating until now. Through this, FP UB KKN students came up with the idea of utilizing organic waste, such as household and agricultural waste, into compost that is useful for farmers.

Through this composting program, FP UB KKN students intend to show how organic waste such as egg shells and plant waste can be processed into useful compost and POC, as well as increase public awareness about the importance of waste management for environmental conservation.

In addition, FP UB KKN students also held a seminar on the results of the practice of utilizing household and agricultural organic waste with the community on Monday (7/29/2024) which was presented by the Field Supervisor (DPL) of FP UB KKN Podokoyo Village, Mr. Rizki Maulana Ishaq, SP., MP, which was attended by the Head of Tosari District, the ranks of Podokoyo Village Apparatus, and Podokoyo Village Community.

The village community is very enthusiastic about the practice of making compost and POC that has been implemented. The community tried to practice making POC at their residence and actively participated in discussions regarding the success and characteristics of ready-to-use compost and POC. The community realizes that household waste can be utilized well and sustainably. From the Dissemination of Results activity, it shows that the community has high enthusiasm and has succeeded in solving existing problems.

“After the community received an understanding of the material door to door by FP UB KKN Team regarding the making of compost and POC, the Podokoyo Village community also participated in direct practice held at the surrounding Waste Processing Site (TPS) with the aim of making the community skilled in applying the material that has been given,” I said.

They hope that the work program can be a solution to the problem of waste that has not been utilized in the area in a sustainable manner, increase public awareness, and activate the TPS which will be used as a place to make compost later. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
