Medical Students Bring Home General Champion of RMO Competition

As many as five medical students from Universitas Brawijaya on (7/9/2024) won 1st and 2nd place in various fields in the Regional Medical Olympiad (RMO) region 4. By taking home 1st place in 3 categories and taking home 2nd place in 2 categories, UB was confirmed as the overall champion of region 4, as well as being entitled to proceed to the national olympiad stage.

“This year, UB is the general champion. Several times the crowning of the overall champion was achieved by other universities. Alhamdulillah this year we were able to win the overall champion,” said Rizqi.

Taking home the general champion title through a fairly long process. From the first stage which was carried out by the selection at UB in May, at least 2 teams were selected in each category to compete in RMO region 4. When in RMO region 4, at least 3 stages had to go through, such as the preliminary round, semifinals and then the final round which was held for a week.

Naura Salwa Raihana from the medical education study program said that last year she was eliminated in the preliminary round. For Naura, winning first place this year was something she had never thought of before and was very happy.

“It was like a magical moment, because I didn’t expect it. The hope at that time was to just pass the preliminary round, because last year we had the chance to join team 2 but we didn’t even pass the preliminary round. Well, it was like coming without expectation, the longer we did it, the more we could and I was very happy,” explained Naura.

Regarding challenges and obstacles, the process was inseparable from these things. Given the long process and the process of studying the material in depth as well. According to Farahiyah Sharfina Saputri who brought home 2nd place in the Digestive category, she said that the challenge she faced was understanding a lot of material with limited time

“Actually, we were more into the material, there was a lot of time, it was quite limited. So, with a short time but it can’t be said to be short, there must have been ups and downs, the challenges,” said Farah.

The Olympiad held by the Indonesian Medical Student Senate Association (IMSKI) in region 4 was held in at least 6 competition categories. The competition was held in Surabaya and was attended by universities from East Java to Papua. (ROM/UB PR/ Trans. Iir).
