Midwifery Student Represents Indonesia in the 2024 Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs

Student of Midwifery Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Brawijaya, Adinda Zahrani Mintarja, will represent Indonesia for East Java Province as a Delegate at the 2024 Inter-Country Youth Exchange Program (PPAN) held by the Ministry of Youth and Sport Affairs, on (29/10-4/12/2024) in Canberra, Australia.

Together with delegates from 20 other provinces, Adinda will represent Indonesia in the 2024 Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP). This activity is an annual program resulting from bilateral cooperation between the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs (Kemenpora), with the Australian Government, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) which has been running for 33 years, since 1981. Later, delegates from both countries will participate in work placements (Internships) according to their interests and backgrounds, as well as become intermediary agents for the exchange of cultural heritage between nations.

This woman, who previously graduated from SMAN 1 Bojonegoro, was successfully selected by the Ministry of Youth and Sports Affairs (Kemenpora) as a delegate to represent East Java Province, after previously undergoing various selection and recruitment processes starting from written test administration, essays, quarantine at the provincial level to the final selection of files and interviews at the national stage.

“Initially, I saw this program as interesting, what was offered was not only the opportunity to learn, expand networks, and experience in other countries, but there was also an internship program that could improve skills in the world of work. Finally, because the final assignment was finished, just waiting for the implementation of the judiciary, and graduation, I tried to join, but I didn’t expect to be able to become a real delegate,” said Adinda.

In this program, Adinda is also required to upload a proposal related to the social program that she has implemented, along with a proposal for a Community Development plan as a post-program activity that she will do after returning from Australia where the goal is to channel the experiences and lessons she gained during the program to the wider community.

This program will be implemented in two phases, namely the Indonesian phase and the Australian phase, both online and offline, where the Australian phase will start first in October to December 2024 in Canberra. While the Australian phase starts in January to February 2025 in Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. Delegates from both countries will also participate in youth discussions to discuss global issues which are expected to produce new ideas and solutions to solve these problems.

“In the previous proposal selection, for the social impact activity, I submitted my research on treatment innovations to accelerate the healing of postpartum lacerations which Alhamdulillah won a medal at PIMNAS in 2022. Meanwhile, for the post-program proposal, I am working on a plan to voice ‘Paternity Leave’ which is indeed getting attention from many sectors, considering its very large role starting from reducing the level of Father Hunger, Postpartum Maternal Depression in Indonesia. The point is to voice how the role and participation of fathers in helping mothers raise children and providing good parenting patterns, plays a very important role in family welfare, especially also determining the quality of our future generations.”

In the future, during the implementation of the program, Adinda hopes to be able to represent local cultural wisdom well, learn, and absorb as much knowledge as possible to be able to realize the Post-Program Plan for the community, starting from studying everything, policies, and others that are related and can be learned or emulated from Australia, so that they can be absorbed and adjusted to the policy implementation model in Indonesia in the future. She also hopes that the idea will not only stop at the socialization level at the East Java Province level, but also hopes that it can be a reference for the Policy Brief or at least an initial trigger so that more parties will pay more attention to this mission, in order to create a supportive environment for mothers, more prosperous Indonesian families, and superior generations of Indonesia in the future.

Previously, Adinda was the Achieved Student III of the Faculty of Medicine in 2022. In the same year, Adinda was also UB contingent at the 35th National Student Scientific Week (PIMNAS) and succeeded in contributing a Bronze Medal in the PKM Exacta Research category after successfully finding an innovative method of treating wounds in postpartum mothers. She also won the title of Best Presenter On Public Health Topic at the International Conference The 1st Brawijaya Medical Conference in 2023, as well as various other achievements at the national level.

Currently, Adinda is an 8th semester student who has completed her final assignment and is waiting for the graduation date. (*/UB PR/ Trans. Iir)
